The Ubuntu 22.04 LTS certification extends device longevity, fast-tracks time to market, and enhances connectivity, making it a valuable asset for system integrators and machine builders.

“In the rapidly growing AIoT industry, we are excited to have iEP-5000G joining the Ubuntu ecosystem. As a value added system integrator, Things Embedded can now offer the iEP-5000G to have Ubuntu 22.04 LTS pre-installed before dispatch. This certification ensures that the Linux IoT gateway provides nothing short of a secure and reliable operating system in edge computing deployments.” Andrew Whitehouse, Managing Director of Things Embedded.

The swift expansion of Edge AIoT and its escalating acceptance in the open-source community has led to the Ubuntu operating system (OS) becoming one of the most popular OS globally. The certification procedure for Ubuntu 22.04 LTS includes comprehensive examination with more than 500 hardware tests to guarantee an optimal user experience. Each element of the gateway is validated, with the hardware being accredited and sustained for a decade. Opting for the iEP-5000G with Ubuntu 22.04 LTS certification ensures that system integrators and machine builders get a fine-tuned, thoroughly tested, and well-maintained Ubuntu OS, extending the lifespan of their devices being deployed in the field. Moreover, they will have the license to use the OS for commercial distribution, which can significantly expedite the time to market their solutions.

A Perfect Match for Manufacturing 4.0 and Smart Energy Transformation

Obtaining the Ubuntu 22.04 LTS certification guarantees the iEP-5000G to meet the highest standards of stability and safety, making it an ideal choice for a wide range of Edge AI applications in industrial applications.

One of the key areas where the iEP-5000G excels is in smart manufacturing on the factory floor. The onboard Elkhart Lake Atom processors enable the Linux IoT Gateway to analyse large amounts of data in real-time, enabling manufacturers to optimize their production processes, improve efficiency, and reduce costs. By leveraging the power of AIoT at the edge, manufacturers can make data-driven decisions and achieve higher levels of automation and productivity.

In the energy sector, the iEP-5000G plays a crucial role in enabling smart grid solutions. With its Ubuntu 22.04 LTS certification, the device ensures reliable and secure communication between various components of the smart grid infrastructure. This allows for efficient energy management, real-time monitoring, and predictive maintenance, leading to improved energy efficiency and sustainability.

Rugged Indsutrial Gateway Connectivity For Harsh Environments

Integrated with Intel Atom x6000E Elkhart Lake Processors, the iEP-5000G Linux IoT Gateway features high computing power with an energy-efficient footprint. Benefiting from a low power draw, the iEP-5000G can easily withstand harsh industrial environments. The gateway boasts a rugged, fanless passively cooled design, with wide-range power inputs from 6-36VDC, a broad operating temperature range from -40 °C to 70 °C, and superior resistance to shock and vibration. Furthermore, this DIN rail gateway offers a simplified installation inside industrial control cabinets.

Despite it’s compact design, the iEP-5000G doesn’t fall short of connectivity options. With three gigabit ether ports as standard, expansion is also available for a multitude of wireless capabilities.

The latest M.2 expansion capabilities allow the Linux IoT Gateway to be integrated with 4G LTE or 5G modems with the addition of Wi-Fi 6E. This means that users can enjoy fast and redundant internet access, allowing for seamless communication and data transfer. The iEP-5000G also supports Bluetooth 5.2 RF. This enables users to connect and communicate with various Bluetooth-enabled devices, such as tablets being used as a HMI on the factory floor.

Not only focused on connectivity, the iEP-5000G features Time-Sensitive Networking (TSN), which ensures precise and deterministic communication between devices. This is particularly useful in industrial settings where timing and synchronization are critical. Furthermore, the the Linux IoT Gateway supports Trusted Computing and Communications (TCC), which enhances security by providing a trusted environment for data processing and communication. This feature ensures that sensitive information remains protected and prevents unauthorized access.

To keep the device up to date and functioning optimally, the iEP-5000G also supports over-the-air (OTA) updates, meaning software updates and patches can be easily installed without the need for physical intervention, saving time and effort.
