Arestech TPM-3217R 17″ 5-Wire Resistive Industrial Touch Monitor with SXGA LCD and IP54 Panel Mount

The TPM-3217R is the 5-wire resistive build in the Arestech TPM-3217 series, putting a pressure-sensing touch screen rated for 10 million touches on a 17 inch SXGA panel mount monitor rated IP54. It suits gloved operators and controllers with an RS-232 touch interface.

  • 5-Wire Resistive Touch: Pressure-sensing touch screen with a 3 Mohs surface and 80% transparency, rated for 10 million touches.
  • USB or RS-232 Touch Interface: Touch connects over USB or RS-232, which suits older controllers and HMIs that expect a serial touch device.
  • 17″ SXGA LCD: SXGA LCD at 1280 x 1024 at 350 nits with 1000:1 contrast.
  • IP54 Panel Mount: IP54 rated monitor for a 392.8 x 318.9 mm cut-out, or 75 x 75 and 100 x 100 mm VESA mounting.
  • 12 to 24 V DC: Two-pin Phoenix terminal block at 22 W typical, operating from -20 °C to 60 °C at up to 95% humidity.

TPM-3217R Overview

On machines and in plant rooms the operator is often wearing gloves, and the controller may be older than the screen and expect a serial touch device. The TPM-3217R is the configuration in the Arestech TPM-3217 series for both cases: a 17 inch industrial touch monitor with a 5-wire resistive touch screen, a SXGA LCD and IP54 ingress protection.

Resistive touch works by pressure, so it responds to gloved fingers and a stylus, and this screen is rated for 10 million touches with a 3 Mohs surface and 80% transparency. It connects over USB or RS-232. The panel is a SXGA LCD at 1280 x 1024 at 350 nits with a 1000:1 contrast ratio and 170° horizontal and 165° vertical viewing angles.

The TPM-3217R takes a single VGA input, so it pairs with controllers, industrial PCs and kiosk computers that have an analogue video output. Power is 12 to 24 V DC from a single source on a two-pin Phoenix terminal block, drawing 22 W typical. For bare-finger multi-touch, the TPM-3217P offers projected capacitive touch over USB.

The TPM-3217R measures 411.4 x 337.5 x 41.6 mm, weighs 4.82 kg and fits a 392.8 x 318.9 mm panel cut-out, with 75 x 75 and 100 x 100 mm VESA holes as an alternative. It operates from -20 °C to 60 °C at 5 to 95% humidity and is vibration-tested from 5 to 500 Hz at 2.16 Grms, and the IP54 rating protects it against dust and splashing water. Arestech names embedded HMI displays, factory automation, ATMs and self-service kiosks, and vending and ticketing machines as the target applications.

Official Arestech UK Distributor

Things Embedded is an official Arestech UK distributor, supplying the TPM-3217R configured and tested for UK machine builders and kiosk integrators. Within the Arestech range the TPM-3215 offers the same build at 15 inches, and the SM-117(P)(R)/VM-2100 offers resistive touch on a sunlight readable panel for daylight installs.

As a glove-ready build the TPM-3217R sits among our resistive touch screen monitors, our industrial touch screen displays and our panel mount displays. Where gloves or an RS-232 touch interface decide the build, as on older machines being refitted with a new screen, this is the TPM-3217 configuration to specify.
