01 Retail and Self-Service Applications

Where Kiosk Computers Are Deployed

Retail and self-service computing sits in four places: inside the kiosk enclosure, at the self-checkout and reverse vending machine, in the store's analytics and signage layer and in the back-of-house refrigeration and building systems. Each has its own mounting, touch, thermal and management demands, so the right platform differs from one to the next.

Open Frame Panel PCs Built into the Kiosk Enclosure

A ticketing, ordering, check-in or wayfinding kiosk is built around the screen, so the computer and display are specified as one open frame unit that bolts into the enclosure from behind. Open frame panel PCs from 7 to 23.8 inches with PCAP touch that works through the kiosk glass, VESA and rear-mount fixings and a fanless design run the kiosk application, the printer and the payment terminal, as our self-service kiosk computers for OEMs project shows across a manufacturer’s range.

Built Around the Demands Kiosks and Stores Place on Hardware

Kiosk and retail hardware is specified against the enclosure it goes into, the glass the customer touches and the fleet it will be managed as, not just the processor inside. We select products whose mounting, touch, thermal design and management tools match the unit and the estate, and say clearly where a product is rated for an indoor cabinet rather than an outdoor one.

Open Frame and VESA Mounting

Displays and panel PCs supplied as open frame units with rear-mount brackets and VESA patterns, so the OEM builds the enclosure around the screen instead of cutting one for a bezel.

PCAP Touch Through Glass

Projected capacitive touch tuned to work through a bonded cover glass or the kiosk's own vandal-resistant panel, with resistive options for gloved or wet hands.

Optical Bonding and High Brightness

Optically bonded panels with no air gap for readability, condensation resistance and vandal resistance, and 1,000 nit or brighter options for windows and forecourts.

Fanless 24/7 Operation

Fanless computers with a wide operating temperature range, for a sealed cabinet with no airflow that runs every hour the store is open.

Serial, USB and Peripheral Power

Multiple COM ports, powered USB and multiple display outputs for scanners, printers, scales, bill validators, payment terminals and a customer-facing screen.

Windows IoT and Remote Management

Windows 11 IoT Enterprise and Linux images with kiosk lockdown, and out-of-band management for a fleet of units that no one visits between service calls.

Kiosk-Ready Hardware

Four product types cover most retail and self-service projects. Open one to see the ranges we specify for the kiosk enclosure, the checkout, the analytics layer and the plant room, or go to the full category.

An Extension of Your Engineering Team

Our engineers work as part of your team, not as a reseller. We check the enclosure, the glass, the peripherals and the thermal budget against the unit before you commit to a build.

Built, Imaged and Ready to Deploy

Memory, storage and modules are fitted and the locked-down OS image loaded before shipping, so each unit is tested as a complete build and arrives ready to bolt into the kiosk.

Supported for the Life of the Estate

Repeatable builds, revision control and last-time-buy planning keep later units matching the first across an estate's operating life, so unit two hundred is the same as unit one.
