01 Factory Automation Applications

Where Factory Automation Computers Are Deployed

Factory automation computing sits in four places: the operator station on the machine, the control cabinet where machine data is collected, the inspection station where vision checks the part and the cleanroom where electronics and pharmaceuticals are made. Each carries its own sealing, connectivity and processing demands, so the right platform differs from one to the next.

Harsh Steel Manufacturing Benefit from Rugged Touch Panel PCs
// HMIs

Industrial Panel PCs Carrying the HMI on the Machine

The operator station is where the machine is run, so the industrial HMI has to survive the machine. Fanless industrial panel PCs from 10.1 to 24 inches with IP65 front panels, PCAP or resistive touch for gloved hands and a 9 to 36 V input carry the HMI, the recipe screens and the machine dashboard at the point of use. Our rugged touch panel PC deployment in heavy industry shows the same hardware working beside furnaces and presses.

Built Around the Interfaces Factory Automation Uses

Factory automation hardware is specified against the controller it talks to, the cabinet it mounts in and the network it joins, not just the processor inside. We select products whose I/O, protocols, mounting and certifications match the machine and the panel builder's requirements, and say clearly where a product is rated for the cabinet rather than the open floor.

OPC UA and Modbus

Gateways and panel PCs that speak Modbus TCP and RTU to the PLC and publish OPC UA to the MES and historian, so machine data reaches the plant systems without a protocol converter in between.

TSN and Industrial Ethernet

Time-sensitive networking and multi-port industrial Ethernet with PoE, giving vision and motion traffic bounded latency on the same wire as the plant network.

Isolated Digital I/O and Serial

Optically isolated DIO, CAN bus and RS-232/422/485 ports, so a fault on the machine side never reaches the computer and sensors and drives connect without adapters.

DIN-Rail Mounting and UL Listing

DIN-rail and wall-mount computers with 24 V DC input and UL listing, for panel builders who need the computer to sit inside a UL 508A control panel beside the PLC.

IP65 Front Panels and Gloved Touch

Panel PCs with an IP65 sealed front, PCAP touch tuned for gloves and resistive options for oily hands, mounted flush in the machine guard or on a pendant arm.

ISO 14644 Cleanroom Operation

Fanless, sealed computers and smooth-faced displays that add nothing to the particle count, for ISO 14644 classified cleanrooms in electronics and pharmaceutical manufacturing.

Factory-Automation-Ready Hardware

Four product types cover most factory automation projects. Open one to see the ranges we specify for the operator station, the cabinet, the inspection cell and the line, or go to the full category.

An Extension of Your Engineering Team

Our engineers work as part of your team, not as a reseller. We check the I/O, the protocols, the cabinet and the mounting against the machine before you commit to a build.

Built, Imaged and Ready to Deploy

Memory, storage, expansion cards and I/O modules are fitted and the OS image loaded before shipping, so each unit is tested as a complete build and arrives ready to mount in the panel.

Supported for the Life of the Line

Repeatable builds, revision control and last-time-buy planning keep later units matching the first across a line's operating life, so a replacement drops in without requalifying the machine.
