A control cabinet or kiosk often needs a full Core processor, several screens and serial devices on a board no bigger than 170 mm square. The IMB-1230 is ASRock Industrial’s Mini-ITX motherboard for that brief: an LGA1700 board on the Intel H610 chipset that takes 12th Gen Intel Core processors, so the processor is chosen to suit the software rather than fixed on the board.
The socket accepts 12th Gen (Alder Lake-S) Intel Core processors up to 65 W. Two DDR4-3200 SO-DIMM sockets run in dual channel for up to 64 GB, 32 GB per module. Intel UHD Graphics drives HDMI 2.0b and two DisplayPort 1.4a outputs at up to 4096 x 2160 at 60 Hz, a VGA port at up to 1920 x 1200 and an internal dual-channel LVDS or eDP connector, with up to three displays at once for operator screens or signage.
Two Intel I225LM controllers give two 2.5GbE ports. The rear panel carries two RS-232/422/485 ports, two USB 3.2 Gen 2 and two USB 2.0 ports, and internal headers add three RS-232 ports, one USB 3.2 Gen 1, three USB 2.0 and 4-in/4-out GPIO. One PCIe x16 (Gen 4) slot takes an add-in card, an M.2 E key with CNVi takes a Wi-Fi module and an M.2 B key with a SIM socket takes a 4G module. Storage is an M.2 M key on PCIe Gen3 x4 plus four SATA 6Gb/s ports. The IMB-1231 moves to the Q670 chipset with vPro and quad display, and the IMB-1232-WV runs from 12 to 28 V DC.
Power comes from an ATX 24+4-pin supply or a 12 V DC input, with AT and ATX power-on modes. The board operates from 0 to 60 °C and stores from -40 to 85 °C at 5 to 90% humidity. A TPM 2.0 chip, a 256-segment watchdog timer and Realtek ALC897 audio with line-out and mic-in are onboard. It measures 170 x 170 mm on the standard Mini-ITX footprint.
