Machines built around a GPU or accelerator card need a fast slot for it, several network ports and plenty of storage. The IMB-1714 is ASRock Industrial’s ATX motherboard for that brief: an LGA1700 board on the Intel Q670 chipset for 13th and 12th Gen Intel Core processors, with two PCIe Gen 5 slots and three 2.5GbE ports, one with PoE.
The socket takes 13th and 12th Gen (Raptor Lake-S and Alder Lake-S) Intel Core processors up to 125 W on the Intel Q670 chipset. The four DDR5 Long-DIMM slots take up to 128 GB, at DDR5-4400 with one module per channel and DDR5-4000 or 3600 with two. Intel UHD Graphics drives HDMI 2.0b and DisplayPort 1.4a at up to 4096 x 2160 at 60 Hz and VGA at up to 1920 x 1200, with up to three displays at once.
Three 2.5GbE ports run on Intel controllers: LAN1 on an I226V with PoE, LAN2 on an I226LM with vPro and LAN3 on an I226V. USB covers five USB 3.2 Gen 2, a USB 3.2 Gen 2×2 Type-C, two USB 3.2 Gen 1 and four USB 2.0, with two RS-232/422/485 ports at the rear and four RS-232 internally. Expansion covers two PCIe Gen 5 slots (one x16, or x8/x8 across both), two PCIe x4 (Gen 4) and three PCIe x1 (Gen 3), with M.2 E and B keys for Wi-Fi and 4G or 5G. Storage is an M.2 M key (2242 to 25110) on PCIe Gen4 x4 and eight SATA ports with Intel VMD RAID 0/1/5/10. The IMB-X1714 is the W680 version with ECC memory and a second M.2 M key.
Power comes from an ATX 24+8-pin supply with AT and ATX modes. The board operates from 0 to 70 °C and stores from -40 to 85 °C at 5 to 90% humidity, with a TPM 2.0 chip, a 256-segment watchdog timer and Realtek ALC897 audio. A parallel port shared with 8-in/8-out GPIO, PS/2 and a Thunderbolt header sit on the board, which measures 305 x 244 mm.
