An operator panel that shows live trends, runs a local database and talks to several devices at once can stretch a dual-core processor. The RSC-IMX61-3W-A201R is the quad-core build in the Avalue RSC-IMX61 series, an NXP i.MX 6Quad Cortex-A9 3.5″ embedded board on a 146 x 102 mm footprint, rated from -20 to 85 °C on a 12 to 26 V DC input.

The NXP i.MX 6Quad provides four Arm Cortex-A9 cores at 1 GHz, with 1 GB of DDR3 memory soldered to the board, 8 GB of eMMC and a microSD socket. The extra cores let the interface, communications and logging run side by side, and Avalue lists Android 4.4.2 and 6.0, Ubuntu 12.04 and Yocto 2.1. The datasheet also lists an optional SATA connector with SATA power on this quad-core board for a larger local drive.

HDMI with a screw lock and 24-bit dual-channel LVDS run two displays together. One GbE RJ45 port uses a Micrel KSZ9031RNX PHY, and USB covers two Type-A ports, a Mini USB OTG port and an internal header. One CAN port, one RS-232 header and a 10-bit GPIO header take vehicle networks, controllers and machine signals, while a half-size mPCIe slot with PCIe and USB signals takes a Wi-Fi or cellular module. Audio covers line-out, speaker and microphone.

Power is 12 to 26 V DC on a barrel connector, typically 19 V, with brownout detection and AT power-on when input is applied. The board cools through a passive heatsink and carries CE and FCC compliance with 0 to 90% non-condensing humidity. For single-application designs, the dual-core RSC-IMX61-3W-A200R runs the same I/O at lower load. The RSC-IMX61-3W-A201R suits vehicle consoles, operator panels and building controllers.
