Axiomtek tBOX110-APL-MR1 Intel Atom x5-E3940 Apollo Lake Railway Computer with M12 LAN and 24 V DC Input

Trams, light rail vehicles and many metro cars run their auxiliary systems from a 24 V supply, and a computer built for that voltage keeps the power design simple. The tBOX110-APL-MR1 is the 24 V rail build of the Axiomtek tBOX110 series, a railway computer with a 24 V DC M12 input and the same isolated rail I/O as its wide-input sibling.

Processing comes from the Intel Atom x5-E3940, a quad-core Apollo Lake processor at 1.6 GHz with a 9.5 W TDP, with one DDR3L SO-DIMM slot taking up to 8GB. That is enough for passenger counting clients, destination display control, event logging and LTE backhaul, and the railway computer supports Windows 10 and Ubuntu 20.04.

Two Intel I210-IT GbE ports use M12 A-coded connectors, and four isolated RS-232/422/485 ports with shield grounding connect door controllers, displays and other train equipment. A terminal block DIO with four isolated inputs and four outputs, rated at 2 kV isolation, handles discrete signals. On the front are two HDMI 1.4b outputs with screw locks, two USB 3.0 ports and audio. The tBOX110-APL-MR1 has two full-size Mini Card slots with external SIM sockets and stores data on mSATA or a 2.5 inch SATA drive.

The tBOX110-APL-MR1 is EN 50155 and EN 45545-2 certified and ISO 7637-2 compliant, and runs fanless from -40 to 70 °C with wide-temperature peripherals in a 164.1 x 128 x 44.1 mm, 1.02 kg housing. It is not listed on Axiomtek’s 2025 tBOX110 datasheet, where the tBOX110-APL-MR2 now covers 24 to 110 V DC, so the MR2 is the model to check for new projects.
