Vecow FE-1071 Low-Profile Dual 10GbE SFP+ Wide-Temperature PCIe Expansion Card

The FE-1071 is Vecow's low-profile 10GbE LAN card, with two 10 Gigabit SFP+ ports on an Intel X710-BM2 controller and a PCI Express x4 interface, rated from -40 to 55 °C. It suits compact systems that need fibre-ready 10GbE links through SFP+ transceivers.

  • Two SFP+ Ports: Two 10 Gigabit SFP+ cages take optical transceivers, so each link can run over fibre instead of copper.
  • Intel X710-BM2 Controller: The Intel Ethernet Controller X710-BM2 drives both ports at 10 Gbps over a PCI Express x4 host interface.
  • Low-Profile Board: The 168 x 64 mm low-profile board ships with a full-height bracket, and a low-profile bracket is optional.
  • IEEE 1588 and VLAN: IEEE 1588 PTP and IEEE 802.1Q VLAN tagging support time-aligned traffic and separated networks on one card.
  • -40 to 55 °C Operation: The card operates from -40 to 55 °C and stores from -40 to 85 °C, with CE and FCC listed.

FE-1071 Overview

Systems that move large data sets between machines, or across a site over fibre, need 10GbE ports that take optical transceivers rather than copper. The FE-1071 is Vecow’s answer for a compact chassis: a low-profile LAN card with two 10 Gigabit SFP+ ports. It is a standalone model rather than part of a series, and we fit it to systems we build where fibre uplinks are part of the design.

Both SFP+ ports run at 10 Gbps and are driven by an Intel Ethernet Controller X710-BM2. Vecow describes the links as IEEE 802.3 Ethernet over optical fibre, and the transceiver choice sits with the system design. The host interface is PCI Express x4. The controller handles jumbo frames up to 9728 bytes and link aggregation, and it supports Wake-on-LAN and PXE boot.

For timing and traffic control the card supports IEEE 1588 PTP and IEEE 802.1Q VLAN tagging, which helps keep several data streams separate and time-aligned on one host. There is no PoE on this model. Where the cabling is copper instead of fibre, the LE-1055 carries two 10GBASE-T RJ45 ports, and the PE-5002 adds IEEE 802.3at PoE+ to 10GBASE-T. Our SFP+ versus RJ45 FAQ compares the two cabling routes for 10GbE.

The board measures 168 x 64 mm in the PCIe low-profile format. A full-height bracket is standard and a low-profile bracket is optional, so the same card fits either slot height. It carries a heat sink over the controller. Vecow rates the card from -40 to 55 °C operating and -40 to 85 °C storage, at 5 to 95% humidity, non-condensing, and lists CE and FCC. The datasheet does not list operating system support.

Official Vecow UK Distributor

Things Embedded is an official Vecow UK distributor, supplying the FE-1071 for UK industrial networking programmes. Within the Vecow range the LE-1055 is the copper 10GBASE-T counterpart, and the PE-5004 carries four 10GBASE-T ports with PoE+ for powered devices.

As a two-port fibre-ready card the FE-1071 sits among our PCIe network cards, our PCIe frame grabbers and our PCIe expansion cards. Where a compact system needs two 10GbE fibre links from one slot, this is the card to specify.
