Vecow UE-1008 Renesas uPD720202 8-Port USB 3.0 Frame Grabber Card with 900mA/1500mA Current Limits

The UE-1008 is the eight-port model in the Vecow UE-1000 series: eight USB 3.0 Type-A ports on four independent Renesas μPD720202 host controllers, PCI Express x4, a 900 mA or 1500 mA current limit per port and 0 °C to 70 °C operation. It suits hosts that run many USB3 cameras or devices.

  • Eight USB 3.0 Type-A Ports: Eight Type-A ports on one full-height bracket, served by four independent Renesas μPD720202 host controllers.
  • 5 Gbps SuperSpeed Ports: Each port runs at 5 Gbps SuperSpeed, with 480 Mbps, 12 Mbps and 1.5 Mbps for older USB devices.
  • Jumper-Set Current Limit: A jumper sets each port to a 900 mA or 1500 mA current limit to suit the camera or device attached.
  • Optional Per-Port Power Control: Optional remote power on/off for each port, managed through the Vecow hardware monitor utility, console tool or API.
  • 0 °C to 70 °C Operation: Rated from 0 °C to 70 °C, with a 4-pin 12 V ATX connector for additional power when the bus is not enough.

UE-1008 Overview

Logistics scanners, inspection cameras and data acquisition devices often arrive on USB, and a single host can run out of ports long before it runs out of compute. The UE-1008 is the eight-port model in the UE-1000 series from Vecow, and Vecow names traffic surveillance, logistics, factory automation, machine vision, inspection, medical and security among its uses. We supply it configured and tested, with the card fitted in the host and the drivers installed.

Four Renesas μPD720202 host controllers sit behind a PCI Express x4 interface, compliant with USB 3.0 Revision 1.0 and Intel xHCI Revision 1.0. With eight ports across four controllers, pairs of ports share a controller, so the busiest cameras are best spread across the pairs.

The eight Type-A ports run at 5 Gbps SuperSpeed, with 480 Mbps, 12 Mbps and 1.5 Mbps for older devices. A jumper per port sets a 900 mA or 1500 mA current limit, and remote power on/off for each port is optional, controlled through Vecow’s hardware monitor utility, console tool or API. A 4-pin 12 V ATX connector supplies additional power when the PCIe bus is not enough. The UE-1004 gives each of four ports its own controller, and for GigE cameras the PE-6004 adds four 2.5GbE PoE+ ports.

Vecow rates the UE-1008 from 0 °C to 70 °C in operation and from -40 °C to 85 °C in storage, which suits a host in a ventilated cabinet on the line or in a warehouse. The card has a full-height bracket, and Vecow lists FCC and CE with RoHS compliance. Vecow does not list operating systems on the datasheet, so we confirm driver support for the host image when we build the system.
