Recording the screen of an older analyser, console or imaging unit usually means dealing with VGA or component video as well as HDMI, and the recording PC may be a compact embedded board. The SC400N1 MC HDV is Yuan’s Mini PCIe HDMI and VGA frame grabber for that job, with HDMI, VGA and YPbPr inputs on one 30 x 50.95 mm card.
The card has a single capture channel and accepts up to 1920 x 1080p at 60/50 fps. Audio is taken from the HDMI embedded stream, and analogue left and right come in through a wafer connector for sources without embedded sound. Capture and preview formats are RGB24 and RGB32 at 4:4:4, YUY2 at 4:2:2, and YV12 and NV12 at 4:2:0, all 8-bit, so host software can take frames in the format it already uses. On-board processing covers cropping and scaling, automatic signal detection and deinterlacing. There is no hardware encoder, so any compression runs in software on the host.
The card runs PCIe x1 over the Mini PCIe connector. Yuan supplies a Windows and Linux SDK for custom applications, and the card works with DirectShow and V4L2 software; Yuan’s compatibility list names vMix, OBS, Zoom, Skype, Teams, Discord, Slack, Cisco Webex and GoToMeeting. The SC400N1 MC AIO swaps the analogue inputs for SDI and HDMI on the same card size, and the SC400N1 M2 HDV offers HDMI, DVI-I and YPbPr inputs on an M.2 2260 module.
Yuan lists driver support for Windows 7, 8, 8.1 and 10, Linux 4.8 or higher in 32-bit and 64-bit builds, Linux ARM, and NVIDIA Jetson TX2, Nano, AGX Xavier and Xavier NX modules. Yuan lists multi-instance and multi-device support for systems that run more than one capture session or card. The card measures 30 x 50.95 mm, the full Mini PCIe size, so it fits the standard socket on embedded boards.
