Avalue ACP-IMX6POS NXP i.MX 6Quad and 6DualLite Single Board Computers with 12 to 24 V DC Input and Dual Display

Point-of-sale terminals and self-service kiosks tend to stay in service for years, and the board inside needs the peripherals a till expects: a touch screen, receipt printer, scanner and cash drawer. The Avalue ACP-IMX6POS series is a family of NXP i.MX6 single board computers built around that list, on a 175 x 110 mm board with an onboard resistive touch controller, an RJ11 cash drawer port and four serial ports.

Both boards use NXP i.MX6 Cortex-A9 processors at 1 GHz with DDR3 memory soldered to the board and 4 GB of eMMC. The processor sets the core count and the display options, so the choice comes down to the screen layout and the software load. Avalue lists Android 4.4.2, Ubuntu 12.04 and Yocto 1.5.1 for the series, which suits long-running retail and kiosk images already qualified on these releases. Memory runs at DDR3 1066/1333, a battery-backed RTC keeps time through power cuts, and a watchdog timer built into the i.MX6 can restart a stalled terminal.

The range has two builds. ACP-X6Q12J-A1R-00 uses the four-core i.MX 6Quad with 2 GB of memory and adds a VGA output, so two of HDMI, LVDS and VGA can run together. ACP-X6L12H-A1R-00 uses the two-core i.MX 6DualLite with 1 GB of memory and drives HDMI with LVDS, a good fit for single-application terminals with a customer-facing second screen.

I/O is shared. Two DB9 ports carry RS-232/422/485 and two internal headers carry RS-232, alongside one GbE RJ45 port, two USB 2.0 Type-A ports, a Mini USB OTG port and three internal USB 2.0 headers. A 5-wire resistive touch interface uses an onboard Penmount 6000 controller, and the RJ11 port drives a cash drawer. A full-size mPCIe slot with USB signals and a SIM socket take an optional Wi-Fi or cellular module, and Wolfson WM8962 audio drives stereo speakers. A front panel connector carries the power button with power and Wi-Fi LEDs, and the datasheet lists an optional MMA8451 G-sensor.

Power comes from a 12 to 24 V DC supply on a barrel connector, and the boards operate from 0 to 60 °C with 0 to 90% non-condensing humidity. With CE and FCC compliance, the ACP-IMX6POS series suits retail tills, hospitality terminals, ticketing and vending machines, and light industrial operator panels in indoor environments.
