Avalue ACP-X6Q12J-A1R-00 NXP i.MX 6Quad Single Board Computer with 12 to 24 V DC Input and 2GB DDR3 Memory

A retail till often has to drive an operator screen and a customer display, read a touch panel and talk to a printer, scanner and cash drawer, all from one board that will stay in service for years. The ACP-X6Q12J-A1R-00 is the quad-core build in the Avalue ACP-IMX6POS series, an NXP i.MX 6Quad single board computer on a 175 x 110 mm board with that peripheral set built in.

The NXP i.MX 6Quad provides four Arm Cortex-A9 cores at 1 GHz, with 2 GB of DDR3 memory soldered to the board and 4 GB of eMMC for the operating system. The extra cores and memory give room for a richer till interface, a local database or a browser-based kiosk alongside payment and printing services. Avalue lists Android 4.4.2, Ubuntu 12.04 and Yocto 1.5.1 for the board, and the i.MX6 includes a watchdog timer.

Display output is where this build differs: alongside HDMI and 24-bit dual-channel LVDS it adds VGA, and any two can run together at up to 1920 x 1080, so an older VGA customer display can stay in service. Two DB9 ports carry RS-232/422/485 and two internal headers carry RS-232. There is one GbE RJ45 port, two USB 2.0 Type-A ports, a Mini USB OTG port and three internal USB 2.0 headers, plus an onboard Penmount 6000 controller for 5-wire resistive touch and an RJ11 cash drawer port. A full-size mPCIe slot with USB signals and a SIM socket take an optional Wi-Fi or cellular module.

The board runs from 12 to 24 V DC on a barrel connector and operates from 0 to 60 °C with CE and FCC compliance, a fit for shops, restaurants, ticket offices and kiosks indoors. For single-application terminals with HDMI and LVDS only, the dual-core ACP-X6L12H-A1R-00 carries 1 GB of memory. The ACP-X6Q12J-A1R-00 is the choice where VGA or the extra cores matter.
