Axiomtek tBOX110-APL-TV Intel Atom x5-E3940 Fanless Railway Computer with RJ45 LAN and 9-36 V DC Input

Buses and trucks need a different computer from trains: CAN for the vehicle network, an ignition-aware 12 or 24 V supply and E-Mark approval rather than rail standards. The tBOX110-APL-TV is the road vehicle build of the Axiomtek tBOX110 series, sharing the railway computer family’s housing and processor but with an I/O panel and power input designed for road use.

The Intel Atom x5-E3940 is a quad-core Apollo Lake processor at 1.6 GHz with a 9.5 W TDP, with one DDR3L SO-DIMM slot taking up to 8GB. It handles telematics, CAN decoding, driver and passenger displays and LTE uplink, and the railway computer model supports Windows 10 and Ubuntu 20.04.

Two isolated CAN 2.0 A/B ports with SocketCAN support read the vehicle network, and two RS-232/422/485 ports with shield grounding connect ticketing or legacy devices. Two RJ-45 Intel I210-IT GbE ports, a DB9 8-bit programmable DIO, two HDMI 1.4b outputs with screw locks, two USB 3.0 ports and audio complete the panel. The tBOX110-APL-TV has two full-size Mini Card slots with external SIM sockets for dual LTE or Wi-Fi, and stores data on mSATA or a 2.5 inch SATA drive.

Power enters on a terminal block at 9 to 36 V DC with smart ignition control, low-voltage battery protection and ISO 7637-2 pulse protection. Axiomtek’s 2025 datasheet lists the tBOX110-APL-TV with CE, FCC, LVD and E-Mark certification, while EN 50155 and EN 45545-2 apply to the MR rail models. It runs fanless from -40 to 70 °C in a 1.02 kg housing. For rolling stock, the tBOX110-APL-MR2 is the rail build.
