DFI ALF51-BN-46E40 Quad-Core Intel Atom x5-E3940 Femto-ITX Embedded Board with Dual GbE and 4GB LPDDR4 Memory

Operator terminals and edge gateways increasingly run a browser-based HMI, a container runtime or a local database next to their main task, and 2 GB fills quickly. The ALF51-BN-46E40 is a 1.8″ Femto-ITX embedded board in the DFI ALF51 series with 4 GB of memory soldered down, giving the quad-core Atom build more room without moving to a larger board.

Its Intel Atom x5-E3940 has four Apollo Lake cores at 1.6 GHz, bursting to 1.8 GHz, in a 9.5 W TDP. The 4 GB of single-channel LPDDR4 at 2400 MHz and 64 GB of eMMC are both on the board, so there is nothing socketed to fit or retain. Intel HD Graphics runs a DP++ output at up to 4096 x 2160 at 60 Hz, which suits a touch terminal or dashboard. DFI lists Windows 10 IoT Enterprise 64-bit and Linux with UEFI boot, with a firmware TPM 2.0 and a watchdog timer.

Two GbE ports on Intel I210 controllers give the gateway separate machine and office connections. Two USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type-A ports and a USB 2.0 header serve a touch controller or storage, one RS-232/422/485 header reaches serial devices, and an 8-bit DIO header handles stack lights or push buttons. A full-size mini PCIe socket with PCIe and USB 2.0 signals takes a Wi-Fi module.

The ALF51-BN-46E40 runs from 12 V DC on a terminal block with a passive heatsink, rated from 0 to 60 °C, with CE, FCC and RoHS compliance. The ALF51-BN-86E40 doubles memory again to 8 GB, and the ALF51-TN-46E40 keeps 4 GB with a -40 to 85 °C rating for outdoor or vehicle enclosures.
