DFI CS650 Intel Xeon E and Coffee Lake Core Industrial ATX Mainboards with C246 or Q370 Chipset and Seven Expansion Slots

Multi-card systems generate heat, and when they sit inside a machine frame or a sealed cabinet the board has to cope with warmer air than a lab bench. The DFI CS650 series is an industrial ATX mainboard on a 305 x 244 mm footprint rated from -5 to 65 °C, with seven expansion slots: two PCIe x16 slots that run as one x16 or two x8, three PCIe x4 Gen3 slots, a PCIe x1 Gen3 slot and a PCI slot.

The LGA1151 socket takes Core i7-8700, i5-8500 and i3-8100 in 65 W and 35 W T versions, the 9th Gen embedded Core i7-9700E, i7-9700TE, i5-9500E, i5-9500TE, i3-9100E and i3-9100TE, plus dual-core Pentium G5400 and Celeron G4900. Four DDR4 2666 MHz DIMM slots take up to 128 GB. Intel UHD Graphics drives VGA and two DP++ outputs, with 4096 x 2160 at 60 Hz on DisplayPort, as three independent displays, and Intel AMT runs on the I219LM port. DFI lists Windows 10 IoT Enterprise, Windows 11 and Linux support.

The CS650-C246CRM uses the Intel C246 chipset, which adds Xeon E-2124G, E-2176G, E-2226GE, E-2278GE and E-2278GEL processors, the eight-core parts at 80 W and 35 W, for vision and data workloads that suit a Xeon. The CS650-Q370CRM uses the Q370 chipset with Core, Pentium and Celeron, for systems where the slots and temperature rating matter more than the processor family. Slots, storage and I/O are the same on both.

Storage covers an M.2 M-key socket for PCIe x4 Gen3 NVMe or SATA SSDs up to 2280 and four SATA 3.0 ports with RAID 0, 1, 5 and 10, and a full-size Mini PCIe slot takes Wi-Fi or mSATA. Six COM ports, two RS-232/422/485 and four RS-232, carry ±15 kV air-gap ESD protection, with 8-bit digital I/O. The rear panel has two USB 3.1 Gen 2, two USB 3.1 Gen 1 and two USB 2.0 Type-A ports and two GbE ports on Intel I219LM and I210AT controllers.

Power comes from a standard ATX supply over 24-pin and 8-pin connectors, with an active CPU cooler. DFI rates the boards for 5 to 95% relative humidity as well as -5 to 65 °C, a watchdog timer supports unattended operation, TPM 2.0 is available as an ordering option, and the CS650 series carries UL, CE, FCC, KC and RoHS compliance.
