DFI HPT171-CB-8640U AMD Ryzen 5 8640U Industrial Mini-ITX Motherboard with Dual 2.5GbE and Quad Display

A signage player or information display usually runs one content application on several screens for years, and the enclosure it sits in is often sealed or behind a panel with little airflow. The HPT171-CB-8640U is the six-core, 28 W build in the DFI HPT171 series of Mini-ITX motherboards, pairing four DP++ outputs with the lowest thermal load in the range.

The AMD Ryzen 5 8640U (Hawk Point) has six cores and 12 threads at 3.5 GHz base and up to 4.9 GHz boost. Its 28 W TDP is configurable from 15 to 30 W, so it can be set lower where the cooling is limited. Radeon 760M graphics with RDNA3 cores handle 4K content, and two DDR5 SO-DIMM sockets take up to 96 GB at 4800 MHz.

Four DP++ outputs drive four independent displays at up to 3840 x 2160 at 60 Hz. Like the 8645HS build, the board has a vertical USB 2.0 Type-A port inside in place of the A-key display slot, giving five internal USB 2.0 ports alongside two USB 3.2 Gen 2 and two USB 2.0 rear ports. Two Intel I226 2.5GbE ports can separate the content network from a management network, and RS-232 and RS-232/422/485 on DB9, two TTL and two ccTalk headers and 8-bit DIO connect sensors, lamps or payment devices.

A PCIe x16 slot with eight Gen4 lanes and an M.2 2280 socket for PCIe Gen4 x4 or SATA storage, plus two SATA ports, leave room for capture cards and media storage.
