DFI VP070-M8M-Q NXP i.MX 8M Quad 7″ In-Vehicle Panel PC with Front IP65 and Wide Temperature

Driver terminals tend to gather applications over time: navigation, job dispatch, messaging and a link to the vehicle’s CAN bus, all on one small screen. The VP070-M8M-Q is the i.MX 8M Quad build of the DFI VP070-M8M series, a 7 inch in-vehicle panel PC with the memory and cores to run them side by side, behind an IP65 front.

The NXP i.MX 8M Quad provides four Arm Cortex-A53 cores at 1.3 GHz with 4 GB of LPDDR4. The 7″ PCAP touchscreen runs at 1024 x 600 with 425 nits brightness. Storage is 16 GB of eMMC 5.1, with up to 64 GB optional, plus a microSD slot. The VP070-M8M-Q ships with Android 9.0 by default and Yocto Linux 2.5 as an option, and a 6-axis IMU with three accelerometer and three gyroscope axes supports motion logging.

I/O sits on the underside and rear: one GbE port, one RS-232/422/485 port and one RS-232 port on DB9, CAN bus on DB9, two USB 3.1 Gen 1 ports, a micro USB OTG port and a reset switch. An M.2 2242/3042 B key slot with a Nano SIM takes an optional 4G LTE module and an M.2 2230 E key slot takes optional Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. Audio uses an SGTL5000 codec with internal line-out and mic-in headers, and a 2 W speaker amplifier is optional on the VP070-M8M-Q.

Power is 9 to 36 V DC with ACC/IGN control, with configurable power delay and protection times. The VP070-M8M-Q runs fanless from -20 °C to 70 °C, the aluminium and steel housing has an IP65 front, and it fits by panel mount or VESA mount. DFI lists E-Mark (E24) compliance with CE, FCC, UKCA and RoHS. We supply it configured and tested, with the OS image and any LTE or Wi-Fi module fitted. For a lighter single application, the VP070-M8M-D carries the Dual with 2 GB, and the VP101-M8M-Q-1200 offers a 10.1 inch, 1200-nit screen.
