Diamond Systems RHODEUS : RDS800-XT PC/104 SBC with AMD Geode LX800, CompactFlash Socket and -40 to 85 °C

Some installations restrict airflow so tightly that fans are ruled out, yet the computer still has to run around the clock without attention. The RDS800-XT is Diamond Systems’ low-cost, low-power PC/104 SBC for that job, built around an AMD Geode LX800 and rated -40 to 85 °C. It suits long-running legacy systems that need standard PC I/O in the PC/104 footprint.

The AMD Geode LX800 runs at 500 MHz with 64 KB L1 and 128 KB L2 cache on the LX800 and CS5536 chipset. Memory is one 200-pin DDR SO-DIMM socket for up to 1 GB, and the board ships with no RAM fitted, so memory is chosen to suit the project. The integrated VGA controller with 2D engine drives a VGA CRT and an 18 or 24-bit TTL LCD up to 1280 x 1024, using up to 64 MB of shared memory.

I/O covers one 10/100Base-T Ethernet port on a Realtek 8100CL, two USB 2.0 ports, one RS-232 and one RS-232/422/485 port, a parallel port, a floppy interface, PS/2 keyboard and mouse and a speaker output. Storage is an Ultra DMA 33 IDE channel for two drives and a CompactFlash Type II socket for up to 8 GB, and a watchdog timer gives a 255-level reset. The HLV800-256DV and HLX1000-1GD are the Vortex86 alternatives in the Diamond Systems PC/104 range.

Power is 5 V DC ±5%, with a typical draw of 5 W. The RDS800-XT runs fanless from -40 to 85 °C at 0 to 90% humidity, non-condensing. Expansion is through the 16-bit PC/104 ISA bus. It supports Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows CE 5.0 and Linux, and a Linux software development kit is available from Diamond.
