What Is Video Analytics?

Video analytics is software that analyses video automatically to detect, classify and track people, vehicles and events, so operators do not have to watch every screen. Modern systems use AI models and often run at the edge, on a computer beside the cameras, to react in real time and avoid sending every stream to the cloud.

The Short Answer

Older video analytics relied on simple rules such as motion in a zone, which raised false alarms from shadows and weather. AI-based analytics recognise what is actually in the frame, so alerts are more reliable and the system can follow a specific target, count objects or read number plates.
