Forecr DSBOARD-ORNXS NVIDIA Jetson Orin NX and Orin Nano Compact Carrier Boards

The Forecr DSBOARD-ORNXS series is a family of compact carrier boards for the NVIDIA Jetson Orin NX and Orin Nano modules, on a 60.5 x 91 mm board. It has two 4-lane MIPI CSI-2 camera connectors, dual GbE and two USB 2.0 on board connectors, Mini DisplayPort, CAN, an NVMe slot and a 9-28 V DC input. The DSBOARD-ORNXS series suits drones, compact robots and smart cameras.

  • 60.5 x 91 mm, 43 g: A compact carrier for the Orin NX and Orin Nano that suits drones, small robots and smart cameras.

  • 9-28 V DC, -25 to +85 °C: Wide DC input on a 2-pin Molex Micro-Fit header and a -25 to +85 °C rating, with an on-board RTC.

DSBOARD-ORNXS Description

In drones, compact robots and smart cameras, the carrier board often sets the size of the whole product, and every connector that sticks out adds to the enclosure. The Forecr DSBOARD-ORNXS series is a 60.5 x 91 mm compact carrier board for the NVIDIA Jetson Orin NX and Orin Nano, weighing 43 g, with its I/O on board connectors rather than bulky ports so cables can be routed inside the enclosure.

Cameras connect to two 22-pin 0.5 mm FPC connectors, each a 4-lane MIPI CSI-2 input. GMSL2 is not on the carrier; Forecr’s Rev 2.0 manual for this board lists its GMSL-NX add-on board for up to eight GMSL2 cameras. Two Gigabit Ethernet ports and two USB 2.0 ports sit on board connectors, with a Mini DisplayPort at up to 3840 x 2160 and a USB 3.0 Type-C recovery port. Storage is an M.2 Key-M 2230 NVMe slot, and an M.2 Key-E 2230 socket takes Wi-Fi and Bluetooth for links to a ground station or operator tablet. Forecr quotes up to 157 TOPS with Orin NX Super Mode.

The range has five variants. The DSBOARD-ORNXS-AA is the board without a module. The DSBOARD-ORNXS-AB16 and DSBOARD-ORNXS-AB8 ship with the Orin NX 16GB and 8GB, and the DSBOARD-ORNXS-AC8 and DSBOARD-ORNXS-AC4 with the Orin Nano 8GB and 4GB. The carrier is the same across the range, so the module choice comes down to model size, camera count and power budget.

The CAN bus has its own board connector, and serial and expansion signals (SPI, I2S, two I2C and two UART) come out on headers rather than an RS232 port, so a system that needs RS232 or RS422 is better served by the DSBOARD-ORNX. A 3.3 V debug UART, an on-board RTC and a 5 V fan header complete the board, and the small footprint leaves room for the module heatsink inside tight enclosures. The DSBOARD-ORNXS boards take 9-28 V DC on a 2-pin Molex Micro-Fit header, are rated from -25 to +85 °C, and run Ubuntu 20.04 or 22.04 with JetPack 5.x and 6.x. Typical uses include drones, small mobile robots, smart cameras and portable inspection tools.
