Forecr DSBOX-ORNX-AB8 NVIDIA Jetson Orin NX 8GB Compact Fanless Embedded Computer

Some inference jobs need more processing than an Orin Nano gives but do not need 16 GB of memory, such as a robot running one perception stack or a line-side camera checking parts at speed. The DSBOX-ORNX-AB8 covers that ground with the NVIDIA Jetson Orin NX 8GB in a compact fanless embedded computer from the Forecr DSBOX-ORNX series.

The Orin NX 8GB module combines NVIDIA Ampere GPU cores with Arm64 CPU cores and 8 GB of LPDDR5, moving the DSBOX-ORNX-AB8 into the Orin NX module class above both Orin Nano options. Ubuntu Linux 20.04 and JetPack 5.1 are supported, so the same software runs across the range if the project later changes module.

Around the module, the DSBOX-ORNX-AB8 provides one Gigabit Ethernet port, two USB 3.1 Type-A ports, an HDMI 2.0 output at up to 3840 x 2160, one CAN bus port, one RS232 and one RS422 port, and two digital inputs with two digital outputs, plus a micro USB 2.0 recovery port. Two M.2 Key-M slots take SSD storage, one 2280 socket on four PCIe lanes and one 2230 socket, while an M.2 Key-B socket with SIM slot and an M.2 Key-E socket add LTE, 5G or WiFi modules. A 9-28 VDC input suits common 12 V and 24 V supplies in cabinets, machines and vehicles.

Thermal management keeps the module cool without a fan across a -25°C to +85°C ambient range, and Forecr houses it in an industrial-grade fanless enclosure aimed at harsh factory environments. The embedded computer measures 110 x 130 x 60 mm and weighs 760 g. For larger model sets the DSBOX-ORNX-AB16 doubles the memory with the Orin NX 16GB, and for lighter inference the DSBOX-ORNX-AC8 uses the Orin Nano 8GB.
