Neousys MezIO-D230/D220 Isolated Digital I/O MezIO Modules with 16 or 32 Channels

Digital I/O is where a computer meets the rest of the machine: limit switches, door interlocks and push buttons on the inputs, stack lights, relays and valves on the outputs. Those wires run through noisy cabinets and sometimes carry faults, so isolation between them and the computer is worth having. The Neousys MezIO-D230/D220 series puts isolated digital I/O inside a Nuvo-9000 computer, in two sizes so the module can match the I/O list.

Both modules mount inside the host on a high-speed board-to-board connector with three-point mezzanine mounting, using the one MezIO interface each Neousys system provides. Inputs and outputs are both isolated. Inputs read logic high from 5 to 24 V DC and logic low from 0 to 1.5 V DC. Outputs operate up to 24 V DC and sink up to 500 mA per channel at 100% duty, which covers relays, lamps and small solenoids. The isolation helps stop a wiring fault or ground loop in the cabinet from reaching the computer, which matters most on long cable runs and in electrically noisy machines. Both sides are read and written by polling. Inputs 0 to 7 can be wired for sink or source (NPN or PNP), and on the MezIO-D230 inputs 8 to 15 are sink type on a common ground. Outputs are normally open open-drain MOSFETs that start at logic 0 at power-up, with a diode against spikes from inductive loads and long wiring. All channels leave the system on one 68-pin SCSI-II connector.

The series has two modules with the same electrical specification. The MezIO-D230-50 has 16 isolated inputs and 16 isolated outputs, 32 channels in all, for a machine cell or a cabinet with a long I/O list. The MezIO-D220-50 has eight isolated inputs and eight isolated outputs, which suits a single machine, a test rig or a small conveyor. Either module brings all its channels out on one 68-pin SCSI-II connector, so field wiring can land on a terminal block in the cabinet.

Typical uses include packaging and assembly machines, inspection cells that trigger on a sensor and set a reject output, end-of-line test stands and any MezIO-D230/D220 installation where a separate remote I/O unit would add cost and wiring.
