Winmate TC605-EX 6″ ATEX and IECEx Zone 2 Rugged Handheld with Qualcomm QCM4490 and Barcode Scanner

On oil and gas sites and in chemical plants, a handheld used in a Zone 2 area has to carry the right hazardous-area marking before it goes through the gate. The TC605-EX is Winmate’s 6 inch ATEX and IECEx Zone 2 rugged handheld computer for that work, built around a Qualcomm QCM4490 with a 6″ 1080 x 2160 touch screen, a standard 1D/2D barcode reader and IP65 and IP68 sealing. Winmate names oil and gas, chemical processing and hazardous-area operations as its intended uses.

Protection is Ex ic, a non-incendive approach for Zone 2. The ATEX marking is II Ex ic IIC T4 Gc for gas and II 3D Ex ic IIIB T135 °C Dc for dust, and the IECEx marking is Ex ic IIC T4 Gc and Ex ic IIIB T135 °C Dc. The QCM4490 is an octa-core processor at up to 2.4 GHz, with 6 GB of memory, 128 GB of storage and a Micro SD slot, running Android 14 with Android 16 as an option.

The 600 nit PCAP display is optically bonded, with 8MP front and 16MP autofocus rear cameras. The barcode reader and NFC are standard, with two barcode buttons. Wi-Fi and Bluetooth are standard, with 4G/5G across two Nano SIM slots as an option, adding GPS/GLONASS, and a USB Type-C OTG port handles data and 9 V charging. Within the Winmate range the TC605 is the version without hazardous-area markings, rated down to -20 °C with an optional hot-swappable battery, and the MC432 is a 4.3″ handheld with a 23-key backlit keypad.

The TC605-EX is rated IP65 and IP68 and tested to MIL-STD-810H Method 516.8 for shock and 6 ft drops and Method 514.8 for vibration. It runs from -10 to 50 °C and carries CE, FCC, NCC, BSMI, TELEC, VCCI, JATE, BQB and RCM marks alongside its ATEX and IECEx markings. The 5000 mAh battery is rated for 15 hours, and a PD adapter is optional.
