M.2SC540N1 M2 SDI Overview
Small embedded PCs often have an M.2 socket free but no room for a PCIe card, yet still need to take a feed from an SDI camera or switcher. The SC540N1 M2 SDI is Yuan’s M.2 SDI frame grabber, built to add one SDI input to that kind of compact host, with a loop-through so the signal can carry on to a monitor or recorder.
The card accepts SDI up to 1920 x 1080p at 60/50 fps and captures at up to 1920 x 1080p at 30/25 fps. Yuan also lists HD-SDI at 1080p30/25/24, 1080i60/50 and 720p60/50, plus SD-SDI at 720 x 480i and 720 x 576i. Capture and preview formats cover RGB24 and RGB32 at 4:4:4, YUY2 at 4:2:2, and YV12 and NV12 at 4:2:0, all at 8-bit. Embedded SDI audio is captured as stereo 16-bit at 32 to 48 kHz. On-board processing handles cropping and scaling, auto signal detection and deinterlacing. There is no built-in hardware encoder, so any encoding is left to the host software.
The card connects over a PCIe x1 link in an M.2 B/M key socket. Yuan provides a Windows and Linux SDK, supports DirectShow and V4L2 software, and lists vMix, OBS, Zoom, Skype, Teams, Discord, Slack, Cisco Webex and GoToMeeting as compatible applications. For full-rate 1080p60 SDI capture in a Mini PCIe slot the SC542N1 MC SDI is the nearest alternative, and the SC550N1 M2 HDMI (B/M) takes an HDMI source on a shorter M.2 2242 card.
Operating system support covers Windows 7, 8, 8.1 and 10, Linux from kernel 2.6.14 in 32-bit and 64-bit builds, Linux on ARM, and NVIDIA Jetson TX2, Nano, AGX Xavier and Xavier NX modules. The board measures 22 x 60 mm. Yuan lists multi-device and multi-instance support, for hosts that run more than one card or capture session.
