DFI ALF51-EN-26E30 Dual-Core Intel Atom x5-E3930 Femto-ITX Embedded Board with Dual GbE and Wide Temperature

Remote telemetry units and building-services controllers often sit in small metal enclosures with no heating, logging readings and passing them upstream for years at a time. The ALF51-EN-26E30 is a 1.8″ Femto-ITX embedded board in the DFI ALF51 series that combines a 6.5 W dual-core Atom with a -20 to 70 °C rating, so it adds little heat to the enclosure and tolerates the cold.

The Intel Atom x5-E3930 is a two-core Apollo Lake processor running at 1.3 GHz and bursting to 1.8 GHz. It is matched with 2 GB of single-channel LPDDR4 at 2400 MHz and 64 GB of eMMC, both soldered down. Intel HD Graphics provides a DP++ output at up to 4096 x 2160 at 60 Hz for commissioning or a local display. DFI lists Windows 10 IoT Enterprise 64-bit and Linux support with UEFI boot, and the watchdog timer can reset the board after a software hang, which matters where a site visit is a long drive.

An RS-232/422/485 header talks to meters, inverters and controllers over serial links such as Modbus RTU, and the 8-bit DIO header reads alarms or drives relays. Two GbE ports on Intel I210 controllers handle the network, two USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type-A ports and a USB 2.0 header add storage, and the full-size mini PCIe socket can host a wireless module.

The ALF51-EN-26E30 runs from 12 V DC on a terminal block with passive cooling across -20 to 70 °C, and carries CE, FCC and RoHS compliance. For colder or hotter sites, the ALF51-TN-26E30 extends the same processor to -40 to 85 °C, and the ALF51-EN-26E40 keeps the -20 to 70 °C rating with four cores.
