DFI CMS330-H420EC Intel Comet Lake Core Micro-ATX Industrial Motherboard with H420E Chipset, Dual LAN and Four Expansion Slots

Retrofitting a machine controller often comes down to keeping its PCI motion or I/O card and its serial devices while replacing an ageing host PC. The CMS330-H420EC is the H420E build of the CMS330 series, a Micro-ATX industrial motherboard with two PCI slots, 10 COM ports and an LGA1200 socket for 10th Gen Intel Core (Comet Lake).

The socket takes Core i3, i5, i7 and i9 processors, from the four-core i3-10100E to the 10-core i9-10900TE at 35 W, plus Pentium G6400E and G6400TE and Celeron G5900E and G5900TE for simple control tasks, with DFI rating the socket up to 125 W. Two DDR4 2933 MHz DIMM slots take up to 64 GB. Intel UHD Graphics drives any two of VGA, DP++ and HDMI at once, enough for an HMI screen and a service monitor. The H420E build has no Intel AMT or vPro.

Expansion is a PCIe x16 Gen3 slot, a PCIe x4 Gen3 slot and two PCI slots behind a PCIe-to-PCI bridge. One RS-232/422/485 port sits on a rear DB-9 and nine RS-232 ports on internal headers, with 16-bit digital I/O for relays and indicators. Two GbE ports use Intel I210AT and I219V controllers, four SATA 3.0 ports take SSDs or hard drives, and the rear panel has four USB 3.2 Gen 1 and two USB 2.0 Type-A ports, with two USB 3.2 Gen 1 and two USB 2.0 more on headers.

The CMS330-H420EC runs from a standard ATX supply over 24-pin and 8-pin connectors across -5 to 65 °C, with optional TPM 2.0, a watchdog timer and CE, FCC and UKCA compliance. For NVMe storage, triple displays, up to 128 GB and Intel AMT, choose the CMS330-Q470ECRM.
