DFI MTH556-ECN-125U Intel Core Ultra 5 125U 3.5″ SBC with 9 to 36 V DC Input and -20 to 70 °C

Data loggers, protocol converters and machine controllers usually run steady workloads for years and need more serial ports than processing power. The MTH556-ECN-125U is the Meteor Lake Core Ultra 5 build of the DFI MTH556 series, a 3.5″ SBC for that role, with four COM ports, dual 2.5GbE and a wide -20 to 70 °C rating on a 146 x 102 mm board.

Its Intel Core Ultra 5 125U is a 12-core Meteor Lake processor with a 15 W TDP, running from 1.3 GHz up to 4.3 GHz. That is the lowest clock in the series, but the same core count as the Core Ultra 7 U-series builds, which suits many concurrent tasks such as polling, logging and local visualisation. Two DDR5 SO-DIMM sockets take up to 96 GB at 5600 MHz, and integrated Intel graphics handles AV1, HEVC, VP9 and AVC in hardware.

Serial and field I/O sits on internal headers: two RS-232/422/485 ports, two RS-232 ports and 8-bit DIO with four inputs and four outputs. Two 2.5GbE ports on Intel I226LM and I226V controllers, three USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A ports and two internal USB 2.0 ports connect the rest of the system. The M.2 B-key 3052 socket with nano SIM takes a 4G or 5G modem, the E-key 2230 takes Wi-Fi and the M-key 2280 a PCIe Gen4 x4 SSD. HDMI, USB-C with DisplayPort Alt Mode and LVDS drive up to three displays.

The MTH556-ECN-125U runs from 9 to 36 V DC on a 4-pin connector and operates from -20 to 70 °C with DFI’s active cooler. It supports Windows 11 and 10 IoT Enterprise 64-bit or Linux, with TPM 2.0, a watchdog timer programmable from 1 to 255 seconds and CE, FCC, UKCA, KC and RoHS compliance. The MTH556-ECN-225U brings the Arrow Lake Core Ultra 5 225U at up to 4.8 GHz, and the MTH556-ECN-155U steps up to Core Ultra 7 at the same 15 W.
