DFI WL051 2.5" Pico-ITX SBCs with 8th Gen Intel Core, Dual GbE and Dual Displays

A compact controller or display box often has room for little more than a 2.5 inch board, yet it still needs two network connections, two screens and a handful of serial and digital signals. The DFI WL051 series answers that brief: a family of 2.5 inch Pico-ITX SBCs, also called Pico-ITX motherboards, measuring 100 x 72 mm, with the processor soldered to the underside and a heat spreader for fanless operation.

Every WL051 shares the same board. One DDR4 SO-DIMM socket takes up to 32 GB of single-channel DDR4-2400, and Intel UHD Graphics handle hardware decode and encode for H.264 and HEVC. Two independent displays run from a DP++/HDMI output and an eDP connector at up to 4096 x 2304 at 60 Hz, so one board can drive a built-in panel and an external monitor. Rear I/O covers two GbE ports on Intel I219V/I219LM and I211AT/I210IT controllers and two USB 3.1 Gen 2 ports, and internal headers add two USB 2.0, one RS-232/422/485 port, 8-bit digital I/O, SMBus and audio. Two M.2 B key 3042/2242 sockets take SATA or PCIe x1 SSDs and an M.2 E key 2230 adds a PCIe x2 or USB 2.0 card.

The standard-temperature builds, rated from -5 to 65 °C, are the WL051-BCA-8665UE (Core i7-8665UE), WL051-BCA-8365UE (Core i5-8365UE), WL051-BCA-8145UE (Core i3-8145UE) and WL051-BCA-4305UE (Celeron 4305UE). The extended-temperature builds, rated from -30 to 80 °C, are the WL051-ECC-8665UE (Core i7-8665UE), WL051-ECC-8365UE (Core i5-8365UE), WL051-ECC-8145UE (Core i3-8145UE) and WL051-ECC-4305UE (Celeron 4305UE). Core i7 and i5 builds are quad-core and support Intel AMT for remote management through the I219LM controller, the Core i3 is dual-core at a 2.2 GHz base clock, and the Celeron is the simplest option for lighter tasks.

Power is a single 12 V DC input on a 2-pin terminal block, drawing a typical 6.12 W and up to 27.12 W on the i7 build. Every WL051 is fanless and ships with an 11 mm heat spreader, with heatsinks for both temperature ranges available as options. The boards support Windows 10 IoT Enterprise 64-bit and Linux in UEFI mode, with fTPM 2.0 and a watchdog timer, and carry CE, FCC and KC marks and RoHS compliance. DFI describes the WL051 as a small form factor for space-limited applications.
