JAX-ASY-ONX16 Overview
Larger vision models and higher frame rates need memory as much as TOPS, which is why many Orin NX designs settle on the 16GB module. The JAX-ASY-ONX16 is the Diamond Systems JACKSON small form factor carrier board with the NVIDIA Jetson Orin NX 16GB module installed and programmed with a Linux OS based on NVIDIA JetPack, with a fan sink and a 128GB M.2 2280 NVMe SSD.
The Orin NX 16GB delivers 100 TOPS from a 1024-core NVIDIA Ampere GPU with 32 Tensor Cores and an 8-core Arm Cortex-A78AE CPU, with 16 GB of 128-bit LPDDR5 at 102 GB/s, in a 10 W to 25 W power range. Two 4-lane MIPI CSI-2 camera connectors suit stereo or dual-camera vision, with Diamond adapter boards for e-con Systems and Allied Vision cameras. The JAX-ASY-ONX8 uses the Orin NX 8GB at 70 TOPS, and the JAX-BB01 is the board without a module.
The JAX-ASY-ONX16 has two Gigabit Ethernet ports on RJ-45, three USB 3.2 and one USB 2.0 ports, HDMI 2.0a/b with audio, one RS-232/485 and one RS-232 serial port, one CAN 2.0 port and 16 GPIO lines at 3.3 or 5 V. An M.2 M-key socket takes a 2280 or 2242 NVMe SSD on four PCIe lanes, which matters because the Orin NX and Orin Nano modules have no eMMC. A full-size minicard socket with PCIe, USB and a SIM socket and an M.2 E-key 2230 socket take modem, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth modules, and a flex-cable expansion connector carries PCIe, USB 3.0, I2C and power to a daughterboard mounted underneath; the second GbE port and the expansion connector share one PCIe lane, so a design uses one or the other.
The small JACKSON board takes 7-20 V DC, feeding the Orin Nano its fixed 5 V or the Orin NX its wider input through on-board load switches. Diamond rates it from -25 to +80 °C, matching the Orin modules. The fan sink supplied with the JAX-ASY-ONX16 connects to the on-board fan header, which matters at the upper end of the 25 W power range.
