The Short Answer
Projected capacitive touch senses through glass, so the glass can be thick and toughened without stopping the screen working. Resistive screens have a soft top film that can be cut or scratched more easily. In heavy industry, the same protection guards against accidental knocks from tools and equipment as much as deliberate damage.

Why It Matters
Our IK rating FAQ explains each level, and our touch technology guide compares the options. The British Steel case study shows IK07 stainless panel PCs in a steel plant; see our rugged panel PCs.
