MILBOX-ORNX-NX8 Overview
Autonomous vehicles and UAV payloads often run detection, tracking and navigation models together, which calls for more compute than an entry module provides. The MILBOX-ORNX-NX8 is a rugged military computer in the Forecr MILBOX-ORNX series built on the NVIDIA Jetson Orin NX 8GB module, keeping the compact sealed enclosure of the range.
The Jetson Orin NX 8GB sits a compute class above the Orin Nano builds, and the datasheet lists Super Mode support for the module family. That headroom suits concurrent perception models, multi-camera tracking and sensor fusion on one board. The MILBOX-ORNX-NX8 supports Ubuntu 20.04 or 22.04 with JetPack 5.x or 6.x, and the board carries a 6-axis IMU and temperature sensor for condition monitoring.
On the MILBOX-ORNX-NX8, I/O covers two Gigabit Ethernet ports, two USB 3.0 ports, two RS-232/422/485 ports, an RS-232 debug port, two CAN bus ports and one HDMI output. M.2 Key-M 2280 and 2230 sockets take NVMe storage, and an M.2 Key-B socket with a SIM slot accepts LTE or 5G modules, convertible to Key-E for WiFi and Bluetooth. A camera expansion connector links the module’s CSI interfaces to an adapter board, and four HD-BNC coax connectors on the rear take Forecr’s optional 4x GMSL2 camera inputs. Power comes from a 9-40 VDC input with 28 VDC nominal and a military-grade filter stage.
Forecr targets drones, UAVs and small ground vehicles with this 1.9 kg rugged military computer. The 180.5 x 131 x 111 mm enclosure is designed to meet MIL-STD-461G, MIL-STD-1275E, MIL-STD-704F, DO-160G and IP67, with a datasheet ambient range of -25°C to +85°C. For the largest models in the range, the MILBOX-ORNX-NX16 doubles memory with the Orin NX 16GB.

Official Forecr UK Distributor
Things Embedded is an official Forecr UK distributor, and the MILBOX-ORNX-NX8 is the 8GB Orin NX build of Forecr's compact military computer, a compute class above the Orin Nano models. The MILBOX-AGX scales to Jetson AGX Orin in a larger enclosure, and the MILBOX-THR moves to Jetson AGX Thor for the heaviest models in the military line. For railway installations, the RAIBOX-ORNX uses the Orin NX module in a railway-grade enclosure.
In our wider catalogue, the MILBOX-ORNX-NX8 is listed with other Jetson Orin NX computers for buyers comparing carriers for the same module, and among our rugged mission computers for defence and aerospace work. As a GPU system that runs inference beside the sensor rather than in a remote server room, it also belongs with our edge AI computers. The M.2 Key-B socket with SIM slot adds LTE or 5G links for remote telemetry, and the 1.9 kg enclosure keeps payload weight low.
