Nexcom EBC 357-J3455E 3.5″ SBC with Intel J3455E, eDP Panel Output and Triple Display

A thin client, home automation controller or multimedia HMI panel needs a small board that drives its own panel and a couple of monitors without a graphics card. The EBC 357-J3455E is the quad-core J3455E build with an eDP panel output in the Nexcom EBC 357 series: a 3.5 inch SBC for indoor embedded designs on 12 V DC.

The quad-core J3455E runs at 1.5 GHz with bursts up to 2.3 GHz and a 10 W TDP, which suits thin-client sessions, HMI screens and home automation software. The processor sits on the underside of the board, where the optional heat spreader couples to it. Two DDR3L SO-DIMM sockets take up to 8 GB. For displays, HDMI runs at up to 3840 x 2160 at 30 Hz, VGA at up to 1920 x 1200 and an eDP panel interface, so one board can drive a built-in panel and two external monitors at the same time.

I/O covers two Gigabit Ethernet ports on Intel I210-IT controllers with PXE boot and wake on LAN, two USB 3.0 and four USB 2.0 ports, one RS-232 and one RS-232/422/485 port as standard with two more RS-232 ports as an option, 4-in/4-out GPIO and Realtek ALC888S audio headers. Storage is one SATA port plus an M.2 2242 B key socket with a SIM holder. The EBC 357-J3455L pairs the quad-core J3455E with LVDS, and the EBC 357-E3950E pairs the Intel Atom E3950 with eDP.

Power is a single 12 V DC input on a 4-pin right-angle connector, with AT or ATX mode set by jumper. The EBC 357-J3455E operates from 0 to 60 °C, stores from -20 to 80 °C and handles 10 to 90% humidity, non-condensing. The board measures 148 x 102 mm, a TPM module is available as an option and Windows 7, 8.1 and 10 and Linux are supported. It carries CE and FCC Class A marks.
