Nexcom EBC 357 3.5" SBCs with Intel Atom E3900 and J3455E and Triple Display

A multimedia HMI panel, portable device or thin client needs a small board that drives its own panel and a couple of monitors, runs on a single DC rail and fits an enclosure a few centimetres deep. The Nexcom EBC 357 series answers that brief with a 3.5 inch SBC on Apollo Lake processors, built with the CPU on the underside of the board so the top side stays clear for connectors.

Every EBC 357 shares the same layout. Two DDR3L SO-DIMM sockets take up to 8 GB. HDMI runs at up to 3840 x 2160 at 30 Hz and VGA at up to 1920 x 1200, and the panel interface is either 18/24-bit LVDS up to 1920 x 1080 or eDP, so three displays can run at once. I/O covers two Gigabit Ethernet ports on Intel I210-IT controllers with PXE boot and wake on LAN, two USB 3.0 and four USB 2.0 ports, one RS-232 and one RS-232/422/485 port with two more RS-232 ports as an option, 4-in/4-out GPIO and Realtek ALC888S audio. Storage is one SATA port and an M.2 2242 B key socket with a SIM holder, and a TPM module is optional.

The part code gives the processor and the panel output: L for LVDS, E for eDP. The EBC 357-E3950L and EBC 357-E3950E carry the Intel Atom E3950, and the EBC 357-E3930L and EBC 357-E3930E the Intel Atom E3930; all four operate from -20 to 60 °C. The EBC 357-J3455L and EBC 357-J3455E carry the quad-core J3455E at 1.5 GHz, up to 2.3 GHz and 10 W, and operate from 0 to 60 °C.

Power is a single 12 V DC input on a 4-pin right-angle connector, with AT or ATX mode set by jumper. Storage temperature is -20 to 80 °C and humidity 10 to 90%, non-condensing. The board measures 148 x 102 mm, an optional heat spreader is available, and Windows 7, 8.1 and 10 and Linux are supported. The series carries CE and FCC Class A marks. Nexcom names battery-powered portable devices, multimedia HMI panels, outdoor systems in harsh environments, home automation and thin clients as target applications.
