Nexcom EBC 358 3.5" SBCs with Intel Atom x6000E Processors and Triple Display

A telematics box or edge gateway needs a board that takes a cellular module and SIM card, runs from a 12 V or 24 V supply and still drives a local screen, all inside an enclosure no bigger than a paperback. The Nexcom EBC 358 series is a 3.5 inch SBC on Intel Atom x6000E Elkhart Lake processors, which Nexcom designed for edge applications with 5G connectivity through M.2 and nano-SIM.

Every EBC 358 shares the same layout. One DDR4-3200 non-ECC SO-DIMM socket takes up to 32 GB. VGA runs at up to 1920 x 1080 at 60 Hz, HDMI 1.4b at up to 3840 x 2160 at 30 Hz and dual-channel 18/24-bit LVDS at up to 1920 x 1080 at 60 Hz, for three displays at once. I/O covers two Gigabit Ethernet ports on Intel I210-IT controllers, two USB 3.2 Gen 1 and four USB 2.0 ports, three RS-232 ports and one RS-232/422/485 port, 8-bit digital I/O, a watchdog timer, onboard TPM 2.0 and HD audio. A full-size mini-PCIe slot and an M.2 3042 Key B socket each have a nano-SIM slot, and storage is one SATA 3.0 port with SATA power.

Three builds are offered, all as barebones. The EBC 358 carries the quad-core Atom x6425E at 2.0 GHz base, up to 3.0 GHz and 12 W. The EBC 358-6413E has the quad-core Atom x6413E at 1.5 GHz and 9 W, and the EBC 358-6211E the dual-core Atom x6211E at 1.3 GHz and 6 W for the lowest power draw. All three share the same I/O, so the processor can be chosen to match the software load and the heat the enclosure can shed without changing the rest of the design.

Power is 12 V or 24 V DC only on a 4-pin (2 x 2) ATX connector, with AT and ATX modes. The series operates from 0 to 60 °C at board level, stores from -40 to 85 °C and handles 10 to 95% operating humidity, non-condensing. The board measures 146 x 105 mm, with an optional cooler kit and heat spreader kit. It meets CE and FCC Class A. Nexcom names telematics and edge applications in outdoor or semi-outdoor environments as targets.
