Sintrones EMUC-B202 USB to Dual Isolated CAN Adapters with CAN 2.0B, J1939 or CANopen Firmware
The Sintrones EMUC-B202 series is a family of USB to dual isolated CAN adapters on a full-size Mini PCIe card, with two CAN 2.0B ports on DB9 cables, 2.5 kV HiPOT protection, 100 to 1000 kbit/s and -40 °C to 85 °C operation. The three builds differ only in firmware: CAN 2.0B, SAE J1939 or CANopen. The EMUC-B202 series suits in-vehicle, fleet telematics, mobile machinery and industrial automation computers.
- Two Isolated CAN 2.0B Ports: Two isolated ports backward compatible with CAN 2.0A, brought out as DB9 connectors through the supplied cables.
- Mini PCIe Card on USB 2.0: A full-size Mini PCIe card that connects over USB 2.0, with a USB pin header for out-of-socket installation.
- 100 to 1000 kbit/s Baud Rates: Six baud rates from 100 to 1000 kbit/s, receiving up to 6000 CAN messages per second with acceptance filtering.
- 2.5 kV HiPOT and Surge Protection: 2.5 kV HiPOT protection to IEC 60950-1, 2.5 kV surge to EN 61000-4-5 and ESD to EN 61000-4-2.
- -40 °C to 85 °C Operation: Rated from -40 °C to 85 °C, with 5 G vibration and 50 G shock figures quoted by Sintrones.

EMUC-B202 Description
Adding CAN to a computer often means an external USB adapter, a loose cable and one more thing to work free in a vehicle or machine. The Sintrones EMUC-B202 series puts two isolated CAN ports on a full-size Mini PCIe card inside the computer instead, with the bus brought out as DB9 through supplied cables. Each EMUC-B202 card connects over USB 2.0, and the three builds share the same hardware, differing only in the protocol firmware.
Every card in the series offers two CAN 2.0B ports, backward compatible with CAN 2.0A, at 100, 125, 250, 500, 800 or 1000 kbit/s, receiving up to 6000 messages per second. Acceptance filtering, listen-only mode, error status and saved configuration are common to all three, along with firmware upgrade and Linux SocketCAN support through an additional driver. Sintrones lists 2.5 kV HiPOT protection to IEC 60950-1, 2.5 kV surge protection to EN 61000-4-5 and EN 61000-4-2 ESD protection, and termination is set by jumper. The cards draw 1.62 W at 3.3 V and measure 30 x 50.9 x 8.35 mm, and Sintrones lists drivers for Windows XP to 10, Linux kernel 2.6 and above, and QNX 6.6.
The EMUC-B202-W1 runs basic CAN 2.0B firmware, for general vehicle and machine buses where the application handles standard CAN frames. The EMUC-B202-W2 adds SAE J1939 support, the higher-layer protocol used for heavy-vehicle diagnostics and fleet data on trucks, buses and off-highway machines. The EMUC-B202-W3 adds CANopen support, for drives, I/O modules and controllers on industrial automation networks. Choosing between them is a question of which protocol the bus already speaks, and because the hardware is identical, wiring and mounting can stay common across a mixed fleet.
In practice, EMUC-B202 cards suit telematics and diagnostics computers on commercial vehicles, controllers on mobile machinery and machine-side PCs that talk to CANopen devices. All three run from -40 °C to 85 °C and store from -55 °C to 95 °C, with Sintrones quoting 5 G vibration from 7 to 2000 Hz and 50 G shock at 0.5 ms. A third mounting hole and a USB pin header also allow installation away from a Mini Card socket where the host layout calls for it. We fit and test each card in the host computer as part of the build, with the DB9 cables brought out to the enclosure.
