DFI ECX700-ASL Intel Amston Lake Rugged Fanless PCs with IP68/IP69K, M12 2.5GbE and -40 to 70 °C

Mining and construction vehicles combine the worst of everything for electronics: water jets during cleaning, fine dust, freezing starts and constant vibration. The DFI ECX700-ASL series is a family of rugged fanless PCs sealed to IP68 and IP69K for that work, with M12 networking, CAN bus and a -40 °C to 70 °C rating. DFI lists the series as preliminary, and both builds are available to order. The ECX700-ASL is designed to mount directly on the machine, without an enclosure around it.

Both ECX700-ASL builds share one design. Memory is 16 GB of LPDDR5-4800 on board, storage is a 64 GB eMMC module designed for easy maintenance, and an M.2 2242/2280 M key slot takes an NVMe or SATA SSD. Networking is two Intel i226 2.5GbE ports on M12, two USB 3.2 ports use sealed receptacles, and two RS-232 and two CAN bus ports share a circular connector, with four CAN ports as a project option. M.2 slots take optional LTE or 5G with SIM and optional Wi-Fi, and TPM 2.0 is fitted. Windows 11 IoT Enterprise and Ubuntu 22.04 are supported. HDMI and the SIM slot sit on the front, with two LTE antennas on the top and two Wi-Fi antennas on the front.

The two builds differ only in processor. The ECX700-ASL2020A-X33 carries the Atom x7433RE, four cores at 1.5 to 3.4 GHz at 9 W, for gateways, telematics and HMI with moderate loads. The ECX700-ASL2020A-X35 carries the Atom x7835RE, eight cores at 1.3 to 3.6 GHz at 12 W, for control and vision gateways that run several processes at once. Both come with TPM 2.0 and the 64 GB eMMC module as standard.

In practice the ECX700-ASL series suits haul trucks, excavators, agricultural machines, ports and outdoor process sites. Power is 9 to 36 V DC on an M12 D-coded connector, the ECX700-ASL runs from -40 °C to 70 °C with 0.6 m/s airflow, and shock and vibration are tested to IEC 60068-2-27, IEC 60068-2-64 and MIL-STD-810H. DFI lists CE, FCC Class A and RoHS compliance, and also offers N-type antennas built for high-vibration vehicles such as mining and construction machines, plus cabled antennas designed to resist corrosion under heat, humidity and salt spray.
