DFI ECX700-AL Intel Apollo Lake Atom Waterproof Computers with IP67/IP69K, M12 LAN and CAN Bus

Sealed computers are often specified once and then reused across a fleet or a plant for years, so a range with clear build options and long-standing software support makes life easier. The DFI ECX700-AL series is a family of waterproof computers rated IP67 and IP69K, on Intel Atom E3900 Apollo Lake, with M12 networking and a choice of CAN bus, Wi-Fi and LTE fitted at the factory.

All six ECX700-AL builds share one design. Memory is 4 GB of DDR3L on board plus one SO-DIMM slot for up to 8 GB, storage is 32 GB or 64 GB of eMMC, and Intel HD Graphics drives HDMI at up to 3840 x 2160 at 30 Hz. Expansion is two full-size Mini PCIe slots, used for LTE and the CAN card, and an M.2 2230 slot for Wi-Fi. USB uses sealed IP67 receptacles, the combo connector carries two RS-232 and two CAN bus ports, and DFI states Windows 10 IoT Enterprise and Linux support for this Apollo Lake system. Two LTE antenna holes sit on the top and two Wi-Fi antenna holes on the front, alongside HDMI and an external SIM slot, and the BIOS supports UEFI and legacy boot.

With CAN bus, the ECX700-AL-E3950-CAN-WIFI-LTE is the x7-E3950 build with Wi-Fi and LTE fitted, the ECX700-AL-E3950-CAN-LTE keeps LTE only, the ECX700-AL-E3950-CAN-WIFI keeps Wi-Fi only, and the ECX700-AL-E3930-CAN is the dual-core x5-E3930 build with two GbE on M12 and no radios. Without CAN bus, the ECX700-AL-E3930-WIFI-LTE pairs the dual-core x5-E3930 with Wi-Fi and LTE, and the ECX700-AL-E3940-WIFI-LTE moves to the quad-core x5-E3940 with 64 GB of eMMC. The x7-E3950 runs at up to 2.0 GHz at 12 W, the x5-E3940 at up to 1.8 GHz at 9.5 W, and the x5-E3930 has two cores at up to 1.8 GHz.

In practice the ECX700-AL series suits utility and service vehicles, washdown areas, outdoor signage, car parks and remote monitoring points. Power is 9 to 36 V DC on an M12 D-coded connector, every ECX700-AL build runs fanless from -40 °C to 70 °C, and shock is tested to IEC 60068-2-27 with vibration to MIL-STD-810G. DFI lists CE, FCC Class A and RoHS, with a UKCA declaration, and the units wall mount. Optional IP67 USB and HDMI cables are available for peripherals.
