DFI ECX700-ADP Intel Alder Lake IP67 Waterproof Computers with IP69K, M12 LAN and CAN Bus

A computer in a hose-down area or on exposed machinery usually ends up inside a stainless enclosure with glands and a heater, which adds cost and another thing to maintain. The DFI ECX700-ADP series is a family of IP67 waterproof computers with IP69K protection that removes that enclosure: every connector is sealed, the housing is fanless and the unit wall mounts where it is needed.

Both ECX700-ADP builds share one design, built on DFI’s ADP253 series board. Memory is 8 GB of DDR4 on board plus one SO-DIMM slot for up to 32 GB, storage is a 256 GB M.2 SSD, and graphics are Intel Iris Xe with HDMI at up to 3840 x 2160 at 30 Hz. Networking is two GbE ports on M12, four USB 3.2 ports use sealed IP67 receptacles, and two RS-232 and two CAN bus ports share a 23-pin circular connector. M.2 slots take an optional LTE or 5G module with SIM and optional Wi-Fi, with six antenna holes on top. Windows 11 IoT Enterprise LTSC 2024 and Linux are supported. The box includes the combo cable for the serial and CAN ports, two LAN cables, a DC input cable and six dust covers for the antenna connectors, and IP67 USB and HDMI cables are available as options.

The two builds differ only in processor. The ECX700-ADP2040A-i5 carries the Core i5-1245UE, ten cores and twelve threads at up to 4.4 GHz, for HMI, data collection and gateway roles. The ECX700-ADP2040A-i7 carries the Core i7-1265UE, ten cores at up to 4.7 GHz, for heavier analytics and image pre-processing. Both run at 15 W.

In practice the ECX700-ADP series suits food and beverage washdown lines, quarries, ports, agricultural machinery and outdoor process plant. Power is 9 to 36 V DC on an M12 D-coded connector, the ECX700-ADP runs fanless from -20 °C to 70 °C with an IP67 and IP69K rating, and operating shock is tested at 15 G half-sine with vibration to IEC 60068-2-64. DFI lists CE, FCC Class A, UKCA and RoHS compliance. Because wiring runs through sealed M12 and circular connectors, the unit can typically be cleaned in place along with the machine, mounted on a frame or wall close to the process rather than in a separate panel.
