DFI ADP253 Intel 12th Gen Core Alder Lake 4" x86 SBCs with Quad Display, Six COM Ports and 9 to 36 V DC Input

Control rooms, operator consoles and signage controllers often need more screens than a small board usually offers, while the same box still has to talk to serial devices and run from a DC supply. The DFI ADP253 series puts four display outputs, six COM ports and a 9 to 36 V DC input on an EPIC-size 165 x 115 mm board, with 12th Gen Intel Core (Alder Lake) processors cooled by a fanless heatsink.

Every ADP253 processor runs at 15 W. The Core i7 and i5 parts have 10 cores and 12 threads with Intel Iris Xe graphics and Intel AMT for remote management; the Core i3 has six cores and the Celeron five, both with Intel UHD graphics. Memory is 8 GB of DDR4 soldered on the board plus one DDR4-3200 SO-DIMM slot taking up to 32 GB, so a project can start with the on-board memory and add capacity later. HDMI at up to 4096 x 2160, VGA at up to 1920 x 1200 and two USB-C ports with DisplayPort Alt Mode give quad display.

The range has eight builds: four processors, each at two temperature grades. ADP253-BCI-80I765UE and ADP253-ETI-80I765UE carry the Core i7-1265UE at up to 4.7 GHz for the heaviest graphics and multitasking loads. ADP253-BCI-80I545UE and ADP253-ETI-80I545UE use the Core i5-1245UE, also 10 cores. ADP253-BCI-80I315UE and ADP253-ETI-80I315UE take the six-core Core i3-1215UE for single-application HMIs, and ADP253-BCI-80CR05E and ADP253-ETI-80CR05E the five-core Celeron 7305E for cost-sensitive controllers. BCI builds operate from -5 to 65 °C; ETI builds are wide temperature, from -30 to 80 °C.

Networking is one 2.5GbE port and two GbE ports on Intel I226 controllers. The six COM ports are two RS-232/422/485 and four RS-232, with 8-bit DIO shared with COM3. USB is two USB 3.2 Type-A ports and two USB 2.0 headers, and a Realtek ALC888S codec provides line-out and mic-in. An M.2 M-key 2280 takes an NVMe or SATA SSD, an M.2 B-key with a SIM slot takes a 4G or 5G module, and an M.2 E-key 2230 takes Wi-Fi, with a SATA 3.0 port alongside.

Power is 9 to 36 V DC on a locking barrel jack or a 4-pin connector. The ADP253 series carries CE, FCC, UKCA and RoHS compliance, a discrete TPM 2.0 and a watchdog timer, and DFI lists Windows 11, Windows 10 IoT Enterprise 64-bit and Linux support.
