DFI HPT253-BCN-8640U 6-Core AMD Ryzen 5 8640U 4″ EPIC Single Board Computer with 9 to 36 V DC Input and Triple LAN

The HPT253-BCN-8640U is the six-core 28 W build in the DFI HPT253 series of 4" EPIC boards, with the AMD Ryzen 5 8640U, Radeon 760M graphics, triple LAN, four COM ports, three M.2 slots and a 9 to 36 V DC input. It suits edge gateways, kiosks and machine control with a lower heat load.

  • Cellular-Ready Gateway: M.2 B-key with Nano SIM for a 4G or 5G module, E-key for Wi-Fi and M-key for a PCIe Gen4 x4 SSD.
  • Triple LAN on RJ45: Two Intel I226V 2.5GbE ports plus an Intel I210AT GbE port, so field, plant and uplink networks stay apart.
  • Four COM Ports and DIO: Two RS-232/422/485 and two RS-232 ports on DB9, with 8-bit DIO selectable by jumper on COM4.
  • 9 to 36 V DC Input: Wide-range DC on a barrel or 4-pin connector, with 0 to 60 °C operation and an active fan cooler.

HPT253-BCN-8640U Overview

An edge gateway in a plant room, a control panel or a self-service kiosk has to collect serial and Ethernet data, run protocol conversion or a local application and send the results out over cellular, usually from a 12 V or 24 V supply. The HPT253-BCN-8640U is the six-core, 28 W build in the DFI HPT253 series of 4″ EPIC single board computers, and it brings that I/O together on a 165 x 115 mm board.

Its AMD Ryzen 5 8640U (Hawk Point) has six cores at 3.5 GHz base with a 28 W TDP, a lower heat load than the 45 W build in the series. Radeon 760M graphics with RDNA3 cores handle kiosk interfaces and video playback. Two DDR5 SO-DIMM sockets take up to 96 GB at 5600 MHz, and a TPM 2.0 can hold keys for secure boot and encrypted remote access.

Three M.2 slots cover the connectivity: a B-key (3052) with a Nano SIM slot for a 4G or 5G module, an E-key (2230) for Wi-Fi and an M-key (2280) for a PCIe Gen4 x4 SSD, with one SATA port as well. Two Intel I226V 2.5GbE ports and one Intel I210AT GbE port on RJ45 can separate field devices from the plant and uplink networks. Two RS-232/422/485 and two RS-232 ports on DB9 connect meters, PLCs and drives, with 8-bit DIO by jumper on COM4. HDMI 2.0, DisplayPort 1.4, USB-C with DisplayPort Alt Mode and internal LVDS cover local displays, and USB is two USB 3.2 and one USB 2.0 Type-A port with two internal headers.

The HPT253-BCN-8640U runs from 9 to 36 V DC on a barrel connector or 4-pin connector and operates from 0 to 60 °C with an active fan cooler, with CE, FCC and RoHS compliance, and DFI lists Windows 11 IoT Enterprise and Linux support.
