Diamond Systems EPS-12G2 Rugged Layer 2+ Managed 12 Port Gigabit Ethernet Switch Boards

Vehicle, military and outdoor networks need a managed switch that keeps working through vibration, temperature swings and unstable power, without a host computer to run it. The Diamond Systems EPS-12G2 series answers that with a family of standalone Ethernet switch boards that Diamond designed for industrial, on-vehicle and military applications. Every I/O connector latches, replacing the RJ-45 sockets of commercial switches, which improves resistance to vibration in vehicles.

All three boards share the same core. Twelve 10/100/1000 Mbps copper ports switch at non-blocking wire speed under Layer 2+ software, run by a built-in MIPS processor with 4 Mb of packet memory. Management is through a web interface over one of the Ethernet ports or a command-line interface over RS-232 for out-of-band access, and the software supports MEF E-Line, E-LAN and E-Tree services with VeriPHY cable diagnostics. The software covers 8K MAC addresses, 4K IEEE 802.1Q VLANs, 8K IPv4 and IPv6 multicast groups, jumbo frames at all speeds, IEEE 802.3ad link aggregation, RSTP and MSTP, and 8 QoS queues per port. The firmware ships loaded, so a board runs from power-up without development effort, and it can also work alongside a host SBC.

The variants differ only in SFP sockets. The EPS-12G2 fits two, one 1G and one 2.5G, for fibre networks or copper SFPs. The EPS-12G1 fits one 1G/2.5G SFP socket for a single uplink. The EPS-12G0 is the copper-only build with no SFP sockets, for networks that stay on copper. All three share the same switch chip, software, board size and power input, so a design can move between them as its fibre needs change, keeping the same copper cabling and management interface.

Each board takes power through a built-in +5 to +40 V DC supply compatible with common vehicle and industrial sources, draws 9.2 W maximum with all ports active and operates from -40 to +85 °C. On-board memory holds dual application images alongside the boot code. Diamond quotes an MTBF of 122,656 hours.
