Diamond Systems GEMINI : GEM-BB01 PCI/104-Express Carrier Board for COM Express Compact Type 6 Modules, -40 to 85 °C

A small, rugged stack still needs a current processor and room to grow, and a carrier that takes standard modules keeps both options open. The GEM-BB01 is the carrier board in the Diamond Systems GEMINI series: a PCI/104-Express carrier for COM Express Compact Type 6 modules, supplied without a module in a Core / Xeon PCIe configuration.

Processing, memory and graphics come from the module you install, and Diamond lists modules from Apollo Lake to Core i7, Xeon and Ryzen as suitable. Graphics reach two HDMI outputs up to 4096 x 2304 at 60 Hz and dual-channel 24-bit LVDS up to 1920 x 1200 with a 3.3 or 5 V panel power option, for up to three independent displays. The COM mounts on the underside, with a heat spreader below it serving as mounting base and cooling surface.

The carrier provides two Gigabit ports, one from the module and one on an Intel I210, four USB 2.0 and two USB 3.0 ports, four RS-232/422/485 ports, HDA audio, eight programmable digital I/O lines at 3.3 V and an Infineon SLB 9670 TPM 2.0. Storage is an M.2 2242 SATA socket for up to 512 GB and a SATA connector, and a full-size MiniCard socket takes PCIe or USB cards. Expansion is PCI/104-Express. The JSP-BB02D is the larger 3.5 inch carrier for Basic and Compact modules.

Input is 16 to 34 V DC, and the carrier alone draws 2.4 W at 28 V. The carrier is rated -40 to 85 °C, with the final system range set by the installed COM. Latching I/O connectors add resistance to shock and vibration, and the board uses its full edge length for I/O connectors.
