Sintrones SBOX-2321 Intel Atom x6416RE Elkhart Lake Fanless Ultra-Compact Embedded Computer with Dual 2.5GbE

EV chargers, kiosks and signage housings tend to share the same constraints: a small cabinet, a DC supply and an operator screen that has to stay responsive through winter and summer alike. The Sintrones SBOX-2321 is an ultra-compact embedded computer built for that kind of enclosure, measuring 182 x 171 x 54 mm without its wall-mount brackets and weighing 1.48 kg, and Sintrones presents EV charger HMI duty as a lead application.

Compute comes from the quad-core Intel Atom x6416RE at 1.7 GHz, with a dual-core Atom x6214RE at 1.4 GHz offered for lighter workloads. Intel UHD Graphics handles the display pipeline, a single DDR4-3200 SO-DIMM slot takes up to 32 GB, and an Infineon TPM 2.0 plus a programmable watchdog support secure, unattended operation. The SBOX-2321 supports Windows 10 IoT LTSC, Windows 11 IoT and Ubuntu 22.04 LTS, so existing HMI software usually carries across.

Two Intel 2.5GbE ports with TSN hardware support connect the charger controller or PLC network and a back-office uplink. A DisplayPort 1.4 output can drive a touch HMI while a single-link DVI-D output feeds a second screen for tariffs or advertising. Two RS-232/422/485 ports (a third is optional), a DB-9 GPIO port with four inputs and four outputs, two USB 3.2 10 Gbps and two USB 2.0 ports, and stereo audio cover local devices. Expansion runs to an M.2 Key B 3042/3052 slot with dual SIM for 5G or LTE, an M.2 Key E 2230 slot for Wi-Fi and Bluetooth and an mPCIe slot for a CAN bus module, while storage pairs a 2.5-inch SATA bay with an M.2 2280 Key M slot for NVMe or SATA SSDs.

The fanless aluminium enclosure operates from -40 °C to 70 °C with 0.6 m/s airflow, stores at -40 °C to 85 °C and tolerates 10% to 90% non-condensing humidity. Power arrives through a 9 to 36 V DC terminal block with over-current and over-voltage protection, and the ultra-compact embedded computer carries CE and FCC Part 15 Class A marks. Four pre-cut SMA antenna holes leave room for cellular and Wi-Fi antennas on the SBOX-2321 enclosure itself.
