Neousys MezIO-U4 4-Port USB 3.1 MezIO Modules

The Neousys MezIO-U4 series is a family of four-port USB 3.1 MezIO modules for Nuvo and POC computers, with four Type-A ports on Renesas uPD720202 host controllers, backwards compatibility with USB 2.0, 1.1 and 1.0, up to 900 mA per port and up to 5 Gbps per port on one version. The MezIO-U4 series suits vision, inspection, kiosk and data capture deployments.

  • Four USB 3.1 Type-A Ports: Four Type-A connectors inside the host computer, compatible with USB 2.0, 1.1 and 1.0 devices.
  • Renesas uPD720202 Host Controllers: Independent Renesas uPD720202 controllers serve the ports, with up to 5 Gbps per port on the MezIO-U4-50.
  • 900 mA per Port: Each port supplies up to 900 mA, enough for many USB 3.1 cameras and drives without a powered hub.
  • No External Hub to Mount: The ports are part of the computer, so there is no separate hub to mount, power or lose in the cabinet.
  • Versions for Nuvo and POC Computers: The MezIO-U4-30 suits the POC-700 and POC-600, and the MezIO-U4-50 suits Nuvo computers and the POC-900.

MezIO-U4 Description

USB ports tend to be the first thing a project runs short of. Cameras, scanners, licence dongles, touch controllers and removable storage all want one, and an external hub is another item to mount and power, with every device sharing its uplink. The Neousys MezIO-U4 series adds four USB 3.1 ports inside the computer instead, on host controllers that belong to those ports alone.

Both modules mount inside the host on a high-speed board-to-board connector with three-point mezzanine mounting, using the one MezIO interface each Neousys system provides. Each provides four USB 3.1 Type-A connectors, compatible with USB 2.0, 1.1 and 1.0 devices, driven by Renesas uPD720202 host controllers. Every port supplies up to 900 mA, which covers many USB 3.1 cameras and drives without a powered hub. The two modules differ in how many controllers sit behind the ports, and that sets the bandwidth each port can count on. Because the module sits on the MezIO interface inside the system, the extra ports are part of the computer itself rather than a hub on a cable, so they stay put when the computer is moved, serviced or swapped. That also keeps the number of parts in the cabinet down.

The MezIO-U4-30 is the version for the compact POC computers, with two Renesas controllers and 5 Gbps shared by each pair of ports. That suits scanners, dongles, keyboards and cameras that do not all stream at full rate at once. The MezIO-U4-50 uses four Renesas controllers, one per port, for 5 Gbps on every port, which suits several USB 3.1 cameras streaming at the same time or fast removable storage running alongside a camera. Both versions keep the same Type-A connectors and per-port current, so application software and cabling stay the same whichever host the project settles on.

We fit the MezIO-U4 module that suits your host inside the Neousys computer, then configure and test the ports before it ships. The MezIO-U4-30 fits the POC-700, POC-700-FT and POC-600. The MezIO-U4-50 fits the Nuvo-9000, Nuvo-11000, Nuvo-11160GC, Nuvo-9160GC and Nuvo-9166GC series and the POC-900. Typical uses include multi-camera inspection, kiosks with several peripherals, data capture and any MezIO-U4 installation where an external USB hub would be one more part to mount, power and support.

Official Neousys UK Distributor

Things Embedded is an official Neousys UK distributor, and we supply the MezIO-U4 series fitted inside the Neousys computer you order, configured and tested before it ships. Where Gigabit Ethernet or PoE+ cameras suit the project better than USB, the MezIO-G4/G4P series adds four network ports on the same MezIO interface. We can check your camera models, resolutions and frame rates against the MezIO-U4-30 and MezIO-U4-50 and confirm which host computer takes which module. Each system has one MezIO interface, so it is worth deciding early whether USB, Ethernet, serial or digital I/O is the best use of that position. If several USB 3.1 cameras will stream at once, we can check the bandwidth per port and recommend the version that suits. Speak to a Neousys specialist on our team about your device list.

Across our range, the MezIO-U4 series sits with our Neousys MezIO modules. The modules fit host computers including the Nuvo-9000 series, POC-900 and POC-700.
