Diamond Systems JUPITER-MM Rugged 25 W / 50 W PC/104 DC/DC Power Supplies for Embedded and Vehicle Systems

Vehicle electrical systems are hard on electronics: 12 V and 24 V buses sag during cranking and spike when loads switch, and a PC/104 stack needs steady rails delivered straight onto its bus. The Diamond Systems JUPITER-MM series is a family of 50 W vehicle power supplies in PC/104 form factor, designed specifically for air and ground vehicle applications.

Each JUPITER-MM supply takes a 7 to 34 V DC input, protected by a 1500 W transient voltage suppressor with a nominal transient cutoff at 31 V, and delivers its outputs onto the 8-bit and 16-bit PC/104 bus headers and an auxiliary screw-terminal connector. The 200 kHz switching design gives 80 to 92% efficiency depending on load and input, which keeps heat down in sealed enclosures, and outputs have current limit and short-circuit protection. Surface-mount components and a low-profile top heat spreader with compressible thermal material keep the module within PC/104 height limits, so CPU and I/O boards stack above or below it. Output LEDs confirm each rail, and an external contact closure switches the supply on and off, so a panel switch or relay contact can control the whole stack. Because power arrives through the bus connectors, most boards in the stack need no separate power wiring at all.

Two models make up the series. The JMM-512 is the dual-output version with +5 V at up to 10 A and +12 V at up to 2 A, and Diamond quotes an MTBF of 107,941 hours. The JMM-512-V512 adds -5 V at 150 mA and -12 V at 800 mA for boards and peripherals that need negative rails, with an MTBF of 87,569 hours. On both, the 50 W total can go almost entirely to the +5 V rail or be shared across the outputs.

JUPITER-MM supplies typically power PC/104 stacks in military and commercial ground vehicles, aircraft, mobile equipment and industrial machines running from 12 V or 24 V. Both models operate from -40 to 85 °C at 5 to 95% non-condensing humidity, and both stack with Diamond’s PC/104 SBCs and I/O modules on the same bus.
