The Short Answer
The Orin Nano Super is not a new module; it is a software update that raises the Jetson Orin Nano from 40 to 67 TOPS. Because it is a free reflash through JetPack, there is rarely a reason not to take it: existing designs gain performance without new hardware, and new designs simply ship on the Super profile.
What Changes, and What Does Not
The silicon is unchanged. The Super profile unlocks higher GPU and memory clocks and raises the power ceiling from 15 to 25 W, which is where the extra performance comes from. The trade-off is more power and more heat, so a thermal design sized for the original 15 W profile needs to be checked against the Super profile.
-
//
New designs Start on the Super profile and size the thermal and power budget for 25 W.
-
//
Deployed systems A free firmware update gains performance, provided the enclosure can handle the extra heat.
-
//
Power-limited designs If the system is held to a tight power budget, the original lower-power profile is still available.
How We Apply It
We build Orin Nano systems on the Super profile where the thermal design supports it, and confirm the cooling holds the module in Super mode under load rather than throttling. Our full guide to the NVIDIA Jetson Orin Nano Super covers the specs and the value in depth.
