The Neousys Nuvo-9650AWP is an IP66 waterproof computer with a socketed Intel 12th, 13th or 14th Gen Core processor and every external port on a sealed connector. It is a fanless rugged PC for mining trucks, farm machinery, port equipment and outdoor sites, where dust, rain and hosing down would finish a standard computer.

The cost case is in what it leaves out. The usual way to get a computer outdoors is to build a sealed box around a standard one, which adds parts and cabling. The Nuvo-9650AWP is waterproof as delivered, so there is no separate cabinet to source, seal and maintain. Among our IP66 waterproof computers, it is the one to pick when the job needs Core-class processing for vision, mapping or control software rather than a low-power chip.

What the IP66 design replaces

A sealed computer earns its place by taking parts out of the build. Here is what the Nuvo-9650AWP removes from a typical outdoor or vehicle install, and the limits to plan around.

A separate waterproof cabinet

IP66 means dust-tight and protected against powerful water jets from any direction. The Nuvo-9650AWP carries that rating itself, so there is no enclosure to design, no cut-outs to seal and no extra cabling inside a box. Our guide to outdoor computer enclosures shows what that route involves.

Glands and adaptors on every cable

Every external port is on a sealed connector: X-coded M12 for the four LAN ports, which holds under vibration, and A-coded M12 for VGA and the two USB 2.0 ports. Our M12 connector guide explains the codings.

PoE injectors and a camera switch

The Nuvo-9650AWP-PoE supplies 802.3at PoE+ on all four M12 ports with 100 W shared across them, so each camera runs on one sealed cable with no injector or switch to seal in between. Our guide to PoE power for multi-camera systems helps size the cameras against that figure.

A separate cellular modem

Two full-size mini PCIe sockets and an M.2 B key socket with a SIM slot take Wi-Fi, 4G or 5G modules inside the sealed chassis, alongside the four wired ports.

Paying for performance you don't need

The socketed LGA1700 design takes Intel 12th, 13th and 14th Gen processors from the Celeron G6900E through the Core i3, i5 and i7 to the Core i9-14900. You specify the processor the workload needs, and the rest of the system stays the same.

Fans and filters to service

Cooling is passive through the finned aluminium chassis, so there are no fans or air filters to clean or replace on a dusty site, and no vents for water to find.

05FAQs

Nuvo-9650AWP FAQs

  1. What Is Ignition Control on a Vehicle Computer?

Ignition control lets a vehicle computer follow the ignition key: it starts when the engine starts, and when the ignition is switched off it waits for a set delay and then shuts down cleanly. That protects the data on the computer and stops it draining the vehicle battery while parked.

  2. What does IP66 mean?

IP66 is the rating above IP65 — dust-tight, and protected against powerful water jets. It is the standard specification for outdoor industrial computing in storm-exposed locations, marine deck equipment and light wash-down food handling, equivalent to NEMA 4 / 4X in North American markets.

  3. What Is an M12 X-Coded Connector?

An M12 X-coded connector is the 8-pin M12 coding for Gigabit and 10 Gigabit Ethernet. Its four twisted pairs are separated by a cross-shaped shield that controls crosstalk at high speed, and it can carry Power over Ethernet with a suitable cable. It is defined in IEC 61076-2-109.

  4. What Is an M12 L-Coded Connector?

An M12 L-coded connector is an M12 power coding for DC supplies, rated up to 16 A at 63 V and defined in IEC 61076-2-111. It is used mainly to distribute 24 V power to PROFINET devices and field I/O, replacing larger 7/8 inch power connectors, and has 4 or 5 contacts.

  5. PoE vs PoE+ vs PoE++: The 802.3af, 802.3at and 802.3bt Standards

PoE, PoE+ and PoE++ are the three generations of IEEE Power over Ethernet. PoE (802.3af) supplies about 15 W per port, PoE+ (802.3at) about 30 W, and PoE++ (802.3bt) 60 W (Type 3) or 90 W (Type 4). PoE and PoE+ use two of the four cable pairs; PoE++ can use all four.

  6. What Are the Advantages of Fanless Computers?

Fanless computers cool themselves passively, through a finned heatsink chassis and heat pipes, instead of a fan. With no moving parts and no airflow drawing in dirt, they are more reliable in dusty or vibrating places, silent, low maintenance and easy to seal, which is why they are the standard choice for industrial and embedded use.

  7. What does IP67 mean?

IP67 means an enclosure is dust-tight and protected against temporary submersion in water up to 1 metre deep for 30 minutes. It is the standard rating for field-deployed equipment that might be briefly immersed — agricultural sensors, military field hardware, marine bilge installations — equivalent to NEMA 6 in North American markets.
