What to Specify in an HDMI 2.1 Capture Card

An HDMI 2.1 capture card records 8K60 or high refresh rate 4K, with HDR, from the latest cameras, computers and medical sources. Host bandwidth matters as much as the input at these data rates.

8K60 and 4K144

Cards capture up to 8K60, or 4K at up to 144 Hz for high refresh rate sources, with HDR passed through.

USB, PCIe or M.2

USB models for laptops and portable systems, PCIe for workstations, M.2 for compact embedded builds.

Host Bandwidth

8K and high refresh capture needs a fast host link. Check USB 3.2 or PCIe lane support on the computer.

Onboard Processing

Selected cards scale or compress the signal on board, which reduces the load on the host system.

HDMI Loop-Out

HDMI loop-out on selected models keeps the original display connected while the card captures.

Drivers and SDK

Windows and Linux drivers and SDKs on every card. Check that your software supports 8K and HDR formats.
