The Forecr MILBOARD‑THR is the carrier board behind the MILBOX‑THR mission computer: a military-grade baseboard for the Jetson AGX Thor module, rated for up to 2,070 TFLOPS of AI and supplied as an open board rather than a finished enclosure. It is for integrators who need to build their own Thor-powered system into a specific form factor or chassis.

A Jetson module is bare silicon on a connector; it needs a Jetson carrier board to break its interfaces out and become a usable computer. The MILBOARD‑THR provides that interface, power and I/O for Thor on locking board-to-board connectors, rated from −40 to 85 °C, ready to drop into a design.

Board or box: MILBOARD‑THR and MILBOX‑THR

Both carry the same Thor modules and the same core I/O. The difference is what surrounds them: the MILBOARD‑THR leaves the enclosure to you, while the MILBOX‑THR arrives sealed and qualified.

Pick the MILBOX‑THR when a sealed, qualified computer meets the brief as it stands; pick the MILBOARD‑THR when the housing, connectors or mounting are fixed by the programme and the board has to fit inside them.

Choosing · 6 checksMILBOARD-THR

Board, adapted board or custom design

Choosing a carrier board is a balance: a standard board gives a validated Thor design now, a custom board fits an exact form factor but takes longer, and many programmes sit in between.

  1. 01

    Enclosure in the requirement

If the programme defines its own housing, connector set or mounting standard, the open board is the starting point. If not, the boxed MILBOX-THR saves the enclosure work.

  2. 02

    Qualification route

The MILBOX-THR enclosure is designed to meet the MIL-STD and DO-160G standards with IP67 sealing. On the board route, qualification follows the enclosure built around it.

  3. 03

    Interfaces as supplied

Where four 10G Ethernet links, isolated CAN FD, serial and digital I/O and three NVMe slots cover the programme, we build on the MILBOARD-THR as it stands. Where they fall short, we adapt it.

  4. 04

    Camera and video set

GMSL2 or analogue cameras connect through an add-on board in the camera slot, with 3G-SDI outputs optional, so the add-on is chosen to match the sensors.

  5. 05

    Custom carrier design

Where neither the board nor an adapted version fits the form factor, we design a custom Thor carrier board. It fits exactly, but takes longer on a new module generation.

  6. 06

    Eligibility check

Forecr supplies the board to defence companies and system integrators after an eligibility check, so allow for that step in the programme timeline.

Choosing

Where the MILBOARD‑THR fits

Forecr aims the board at defence, aerospace, marine and transport programmes where the enclosure is part of the requirement: a fixed mechanical envelope, a sealed or conduction-cooled housing, or a connector standard that no off-the-shelf box provides. It gives those programmes a known-good Thor baseboard to build a bespoke computer around, instead of starting a carrier board from scratch.

If a finished enclosure suits the programme better, our MILBOX‑THR mission computer spotlight covers the boxed version. Our explainer on the Jetson Thor generation sets out what the module adds over AGX Orin, and the full range sits with our Jetson Thor carrier boards.

04FAQs

MILBOARD-THR FAQs

  1. Does Jetson Thor Need a New Carrier Board?

Yes. Jetson Thor uses a different connector, higher power (up to 130 W), and new I/O compared with AGX Orin, so it needs a carrier board designed for Thor rather than an Orin board. Moving from AGX Orin to Thor is a platform change, not a drop-in module swap.

  2. Jetson T5000 vs T4000: What Is the Difference?

The Jetson T5000 and T4000 are the two NVIDIA Jetson Thor modules. The T5000 is the top variant, with up to 2,070 FP4 TFLOPS, 128 GB, and up to 130 W; the T4000 is the lower-power variant, with up to 1,200 FP4 TFLOPS, 64 GB, and up to 70 W. Both use the Blackwell GPU.

  3. What Is the Difference Between a Jetson Module and a Developer Kit?

A developer kit is a reference carrier board with a module fitted, meant for evaluation and prototyping. A production system uses the bare module on a carrier board designed for your I/O, environment, and lifecycle. The module is the same; the kit is not what you deploy.

  4. What Is NVIDIA JetPack?

NVIDIA JetPack is the software development kit for the Jetson platform. It provides the operating system (Linux for Tegra, based on Ubuntu) plus the AI, computer-vision, and multimedia libraries — CUDA, cuDNN, and TensorRT — that let a Jetson run GPU-accelerated AI. The same JetPack runs across the Jetson range.

  5. What does IP67 mean?

IP67 means an enclosure is dust-tight and protected against temporary submersion in water up to 1 metre deep for 30 minutes. It is the standard rating for field-deployed equipment that might be briefly immersed — agricultural sensors, military field hardware, marine bilge installations — equivalent to NEMA 6 in North American markets.

  6. NVMe vs SATA on M.2 — which should I specify?

An M.2 SATA SSD and an M.2 NVMe SSD look identical to the casual eye but their performance is in different leagues. Here's how to tell them apart and what to specify.

  7. What Is TAA Compliance?

TAA compliance means a product is wholly manufactured or substantially transformed in the United States or a TAA-designated country, as required by the Trade Agreements Act for many US federal and defence purchases. It is about country of origin, not US content levels, which is what the separate Buy American Act covers.
